How To Read The Bible To Better Understand

Jesus died on the cross for our sins — not just because we've made mistakes, but because we've broken God's law (the Ten Commandments). We've lied, we've put other things before Him, we've fallen short in so many ways. But God, in His mercy, sent Jesus to take our place, to pay the price we could never pay.

This gift of grace calls us not only to believe but to repent

— to turn away from sin and walk in obedience.

Not out of fear, but out of love for the One who gave everything for us.

So let's keep sharing His Word - boldly, beautifully, and with purpose. May it point others to the truth, to the cross, and to the hope we have in Christ.

... Read moreI remember when I first started trying to read the Bible – it felt like a huge task! Where do you even begin, especially with all those ancient names and laws? Like many, I struggled to grasp the deeper meaning, particularly when diving into the Old Testament. But I’ve learned that approaching books like Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy isn't as daunting as it seems, and they hold incredible, foundational truths that are key to understanding the entire biblical narrative. These first five books, often called the Pentateuch or the Torah, lay out the very blueprint of God's relationship with humanity. Think of them as the origin story for everything that follows. In Genesis, we discover the creation of the world, the fall of humanity, and the devastating impact of sin. It introduces us to God's chosen people through Abraham, setting the stage for His plan of redemption. It's not just ancient history; it shows us why we need a Savior. Then comes Exodus, a powerful narrative of liberation. Here, we witness God rescuing His people from slavery in Egypt, demonstrating His mighty power and unwavering faithfulness. This book also introduces us to the Ten Commandments and the covenant God makes with His people, establishing the core of His law. It’s a profound lesson in God's character – His justice and His mercy. Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy might seem a bit challenging at first glance, with detailed laws, rituals, and genealogies. But don’t skip them! Leviticus reveals God's holiness and the necessity of atonement for sin, pointing forward to the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus. Numbers recounts the wilderness journey, highlighting both God's provision and the consequences of disobedience. And Deuteronomy serves as a powerful reminder of God’s covenant, urging His people to remember His laws and love Him wholeheartedly. These books, though packed with specific instructions for ancient Israel, teach us timeless principles about God's character, the nature of sin, and the immense value of obedience, not out of fear, but out of love for the One who gave everything for us. For anyone feeling like I did – a bit lost in the detailed laws or the long lists of names – my biggest tip is to look for the bigger picture. Each of these books, from Genesis to Deuteronomy, consistently points to God’s overarching plan for humanity and His desire for a relationship with us. They show us how deeply sin has affected us and how desperately we need His grace. Understanding these foundational books truly helps everything else in the Bible click into place, especially when you later read about Jesus in the Gospels or the teachings in Romans, Galatians, and Colossians. You'll see how Jesus fulfills the Law and offers the ultimate sacrifice, allowing us to truly become His followers. So, don't be afraid to dive into these rich, ancient texts. Take notes, ask questions, and remember that with each chapter, you're uncovering more about God's incredible story of love and redemption. It’s a journey that’s absolutely worth taking!

I started exactly how you’ve posted in the 2nd and 3rd slides, then I started a “Bible in a year” plan. It has been front to back, a little of Old and New Testament each day. I appreciate the remaining slides you have, and they encourage me to read in this order when I start over in January, since I have no other plan to follow. Thank you! Also, thank you for the wisdom you shared under this post. God bless you forevermore.
