Exiting My Lukewarm Era
Day 2:
Today I read through Joshua chapters 2-4 where the Israelites obey God and follow Joshua and his plans to get their land back. Through their obedience God performs miracles and places people in their path that will support them on their journey.
We meet Rahab, a woman in the city of Jericho who goes against the rulers of her land to hide spies from the Israelites. We also see God at work when he dries up the Jordan River so the Israelites can cross on dry land, a similar event to the well known parting of the Red Sea with Moses. After this event Joshua is greeted with the same reverence as Moses, everyone around him knows that he is chosen by God.
As we find ourselves in our own battles, undoubtedly much smaller than war, are we obeying God? Or are we expecting God to keep us from troubles while we float through life doing as we please? These are questions I began to ask myself during today's reading.
The Israelites spent 40 years failing to obey God and trust in his plan, but once they finally did God showed up and moved great waters for them. I think about the amount of time I’ve known what God wanted out of me, but pushed it off out of fear or laziness. For me that lack of discipline ends now, I choose to step boldly in my faith and allow God to fully guide my life.
Ending in Prayer once again:
Lord God, I thank you for the revelation in reading today. Thank you for guiding me through the story of the Israelites and sending your Holy Spirit to teach me and flood me with understanding. I thank you for today being another opportunity to obey you and practice discipline in my life. I thank you for every person who may come across this Bible study. I ask that you work in their lives and bless them in all that they do, Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
