You didn't lose yourself. You adjusted to survive.

... Read moreWhen I first reflected on the idea that "You didn't lose yourself, you adjusted to survive," it resonated deeply with my own experience of feeling like I was fading into the background to keep the peace. This adjustment often stems from the desire to avoid conflict or rejection, especially for those of us who identify as people pleasers. I've come to realize it's a form of protecting ourselves, albeit one that can cause us to shrink our true selves over time. In my healing journey, I learned that choosing peace over truth doesn't mean abandoning who you really are—it means you're temporarily prioritizing safety. However, this safety comes at a cost when it leads to silence and making yourself smaller. The critical question is, who benefits when you diminish your authentic self? Often, it's not you. Recognizing this was a pivotal moment for me. I started small steps to reclaim my identity, such as expressing my opinions gently but firmly and setting boundaries in relationships. It wasn't easy, but each act of authenticity strengthened my self-identity. Embracing your true self is not an overnight journey but a continuous process of healing and self-compassion. To anyone who feels lost or like they've changed too much to be recognized by themselves, know that adjustment was a strategy for survival, not a permanent loss. You can reconnect with who you are by choosing self-awareness, seeking support, and allowing yourself to be imperfectly you. Healing is possible, and peace can come from honoring your own truth rather than suppressing it.

if you feel disconnected from yourself lately… this is why it’s not that you don’t know who you are it’s that your body doesn’t feel safe enough to be who you are so you overthink you freeze when making decisions you say “i don’t know” even when something is there that’s not confusion
