At what point do you stop calling it your fault?

... Read moreTaking ownership of our actions is important, but it's equally vital to recognize when we are unfairly carrying the burden of blame for things we cannot control. Often, we blame ourselves for efforts that were never fully supported or reciprocated by others. This can lead to unnecessary guilt and diminished self-worth. From my experience, the turning point comes when you honestly evaluate the situation and ask yourself if the effort you made was met with genuine support from the other side. If it was not, then continuing to blame yourself only prolongs emotional pain. In relationships, whether personal or professional, it’s key to identify boundaries of responsibility. If the other party never held up their end or took accountability, then the fault does not rest solely on you. Accepting this truth can be painful but ultimately liberating, as it allows you to focus on healing rather than self-criticism. I found journaling and talking with trusted friends or mentors helps clarify where my responsibilities end and where others’ begin. Engaging in inner work and practicing self-worth affirmations gently reinforce that you are not to blame for the failures or endings dictated by others’ choices. Remember, self-awareness involves recognizing patterns where you might be overburdening yourself unfairly. Taking deliberate steps to shift your mindset from blame to understanding transforms your emotional wellbeing. The question isn’t 'What did I do wrong?' but 'Why am I still holding onto responsibility that was never mine to begin with?' This shift in perspective helps build resilience and strengthens your ability to move forward with confidence and peace.

Toddler won’t listen? It’s not your fault 👂
I used to think I was doing something wrong every time my toddler walked away mid-sentence. Then I learned something that changed everything: the part of the brain responsible for listening, following directions, and compliance isn’t functional yet. It won’t fully develop until their MID-20s.
