And he got mad at me for asking
I stopped by my neighborhood grocery store yesterday specifically to grab some beef tallow and let me tell you, the interaction with the butcher was so confusing. I walked up and asked if they had any beef tallow, and he just got annoyed out of nowhere. “Beef what? I don’t have a clue what kind of beef that even is?” I tried to break it down simply: “It’s the white, kinda waxy fat from cows.” And he went: “Oh! You mean LARD!” Then he marches me over to the baking aisle, grabs a plastic package of lard off the shelf, and shoves it at me like I was being ridiculous. I was shocked, like, how do you mix those up? So weird. Quick question: Have you ever had a grocery store worker mix up a food item so bad it left you confused?

They were just tone deaf and have no real interest in his trade. They are one of the many ignorant people who think they know everything. When interacting with someone with a broader knowledge they look at you like you're stupid. I just laugh it off now. There is nothing you can do to fix stupid.
