What else can I use it for?

Tossing out underwear that’s worn thin, has a loose elastic, or just doesn’t fit right feels like such a waste. They’re still soft and totally usable, just not for their original job. I can’t bring myself to throw them away, but my drawer’s overflowing with “retired” pairs.

I’ve heard of people cutting them up for cleaning rags (genius for wiping down sinks or dusting!), but I feel like there’s more creative uses out there. Do you turn them into pet bed liners? Use them to wrap fragile items when moving? Or maybe repurpose them for gardening?

There’s no way I’m the only one hoarding old undies because throwing them feels wrong. What’s your go-to hack for repurposing them? I need to clear out my drawer without wasting!

... Read moreIf you’re like many, tossing out underwear that’s worn thin or no longer fits feels wasteful because the fabric is still soft and useful. One of the most popular repurposing ideas is cutting up the underwear into cleaning rags—perfect for wiping down sinks, dusting shelves, or polishing shoes. Their absorbent cotton material makes them ideal for household cleaning tasks. Beyond cleaning, some people creatively transform old underwear into pet bed liners. The soft fabric provides comfort and warmth for pets, especially if you sew the fabric into cushion covers. Additionally, worn underwear can serve as protective wraps for fragile items during moving or storage. Wrapping glassware or ceramics in fabric sleeves reduces the risk of breakage and makes great use of otherwise unwanted textiles. If you’re into gardening, underwear fabric can be repurposed as plant ties or covers to protect delicate plants from frost or pests. Cut strips from the fabric are gentle on stems and reusable season after season. It’s an eco-friendly alternative to plastic ties. For those who are crafty, the elastic bands from underwear can be scavenged for DIY projects or hair ties. The variety of colors and softness add a personal touch to handmade accessories. Remember, the key is to avoid waste and give old textiles a second life. Whether you use them as cleaning cloths, pet bedding, protective wraps, or garden helpers, worn underwear proves to be surprisingly versatile. Sharing hacks and ideas in communities like #Letschat or #Asklemon8 can inspire others to rethink household waste and promote sustainability. So next time your drawer overflows with "retired" pairs, instead of throwing them away, try these inventive repurposing ideas. Not only do they help declutter your space, but they contribute to waste reduction and sustainable living practices.
