Listen when you are doing your laundry, I have one product that I strongly suggest you add to your laundry routine.
Even though this scent is my least favorite so far (Cool Cotton)!
There is something called Downy Rinse and Refresh! Have you seen? Have you heard about it?
If you haven’t heard about it, now, I’m letting you know.
Downy Rinse and Refresh is a game changer to boost your laundry.
You can’t say I never shared this tip with you.
Also, when using these products. I strongly suggest to use a non scented detergent. The scented beads and rinse should be the same scent. Do not mix the scents up.
If you haven’t already, please give it a try and tell me what you think in the comments.
... Read moreHey everyone! I've been seeing a lot of chatter and questions lately about using Downy Rinse & Refresh, and specifically, some concerns about clothes feeling a bit sticky after a wash. I totally get it – when you're trying to achieve that super fresh, clean laundry feeling, the last thing you want is residue! So, I wanted to dive a little deeper into why this might be happening and share my personal tips to make sure you get the best results with this product, avoiding any stickiness.
From my own experience and what I've learned, stickiness can often come down to a few factors. One common culprit is simply using too much product. It's easy to think 'more is better,' especially when you're tackling tough odors, but Downy Rinse & Refresh is quite concentrated. I've found that sticking to the recommended dosage on the bottle, or even just slightly less if you have a smaller load or softer water, makes a huge difference. Overdosing can lead to the product not rinsing out completely, leaving that unwanted sticky film on your clothes. I always measure carefully – a little goes a long way with this stuff!
Another thing to consider is your washing machine itself. If your machine isn't rinsing thoroughly, or if it's got a build-up of detergent and fabric softener residue over time, it can definitely contribute to the problem. Think about it: if your machine is already gunked up, how can it effectively rinse away new products? I try to run a 'clean machine' cycle with a specialized washer cleaner or a simple mixture of baking soda and vinegar every few months. This ensures your washer is working optimally to rinse everything away, including the Downy Rinse & Refresh Cool Cotton that I personally use, ensuring your clothes come out pristine.
Water hardness can also play a significant role. If you have very hard water, the minerals present can sometimes interact with laundry products, making them less effective at dissolving and rinsing away cleanly. This can leave behind deposits that feel sticky or stiff. If you suspect hard water is an issue in your area, you might consider adding a water softener to your wash cycle, or simply adjust your product amounts accordingly. A quick search for your local water quality can give you clues!
And remember what I mentioned in my original post about mixing scents? While that primarily affects the overall smell, it's also a good practice to ensure chemical compatibility. When you're using products like all free & clear detergent (which I love for its gentle formula for sensitive skin) and then adding an in-wash scent booster alongside your rinse, consistency is key. I usually stick to the same scent family, like my beloved Cool Cotton, to avoid any unexpected interactions that might contribute to residue or stickiness. Using a non-scented detergent, as I recommended, truly gives the Rinse & Refresh and your scent booster a clean slate to work their magic without competing.
Lastly, pay attention to different fabric types. Some synthetics or blends can sometimes be more prone to holding onto residues than natural fibers. For these, I sometimes even reduce the amount of Downy Rinse & Refresh slightly. My ultimate goal with Downy Rinse & Refresh is to eliminate those stubborn odors – especially from activewear or towels – and leave clothes feeling truly clean and fresh, not just masked. If you're encountering stickiness, try adjusting the amount you use, giving your washing machine a good clean, considering your water type, and being mindful of fabric types. It’s all about finding that sweet spot for your specific laundry routine. Don't give up on it – once you figure out the best way to use it for your laundry, it really is a game changer for odor elimination and ultimate freshness!
I work in a restaurant and my uniform smells disgusting after working 🤢🤢 this is the ONLY thing that took the odor out of them!!! Tried baking soda, vinegar, and nothing. It’s awesome !!
I think this version of downy smells like sawdust, so this is a no go for me.
