Macaroni – 10/10
I have zero complaints. That macaroni was very, very good. Some people’s macaroni is powdery, not cheesy enough, too cheesy, not seasoned enough, or something else is off. This one had the perfect amount of cheese, the right consistency, no powdery taste, and it just worked. Easy 10 out of 10.
Meat – 9.5/10
The meat was very good. My only complaint is that it was almost salty. When you eat it with the macaroni, though, the creaminess of the macaroni kind of balances that saltiness out. That doesn’t mean it disappears—you can still taste it—but it becomes much more subtle. Even with that, I’m still giving the meat a 9.5 out of 10 because the flavor was really good.
Candied Yams – 9.3/10
The yams were really good. My only suggestion would be a little more of that cinnamon-brown sugar syrup that makes candied yams what they are. Other than that, they were solid, and I’m giving them a 9.3 out of 10.
Presentation
The presentation of the plate was amazing. I’m a sucker for seeing young people—or honestly anybody—go after what they want to do in life. I’ll always support people chasing their goals and building something for themselves. I definitely approve this message.
Andre!! Keep going! And yes absolutely you were very respectful when we meet. I would love to make more content with you playa.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ KEEP GOING
Soul food is more than just a meal—it's a rich cultural experience that brings comfort and joy, often shared with family and friends. Having enjoyed many soul food dishes myself, I can truly appreciate when a young chef not only masters the essential elements but also adds their own heartfelt touch. Macaroni and cheese, for example, is a soul food staple. The perfect balance of creaminess and cheese can be elusive, but when done right, it creates a comforting, nostalgic feeling. The description of the macaroni being perfectly cheesy without any powdery aftertaste tells me this young chef understands the importance of seasoning and texture. Meat, another cornerstone of soul cuisine, requires a delicate hand with seasoning. Saltiness can easily overpower, but pairing it with creamy sides is a clever way to balance flavors. This approach shows culinary maturity beyond age, demonstrating that the chef grasps the harmony necessary to elevate a dish. Candied yams with just the right amount of cinnamon-brown sugar syrup bring a sweet contrast that completes the plate. I agree that sometimes a bit more syrup can amplify the experience, making the yams a true highlight. Presentation matters a lot, especially for emerging chefs eager to prove their craft. The noted impressive plating speaks to the chef’s dedication not just to taste but to visual appeal—a complete sensory experience. Supporting young culinary talents like this 18-year-old chef is essential. It encourages passion, creativity, and the continuation of soul food traditions while inviting new influences. Whether you're a soul food aficionado or someone curious about regional American cuisines, observing the journey of young chefs who put their heart into every plate offers inspiration. It reminds us that food connects us not only to flavors but to stories, cultures, and dreams. This fully soul food plate review is a testament to that powerful connection.
