My Honest Review: 3 Viral Tinted Sunscreens Tested!
Sharing my breakdown of these three iconic tinted sunscreens! I have combination/acne-prone skin, so finding an SPF that actually looks good without making me break out is tough. Here is how they performed on my hand and my skin:
🧴 EltaMD UV Clear Tinted SPF 46
A cult favorite for a reason. It has a lightweight, silky texture and contains Niacinamide which helps calm redness. It feels like skincare and makeup in one!
My verdict: Perfect for acne-prone and sensitive skin.
🧡 Supergoop! Protec(tint) SPF 50
This one feels more like a rich moisturizer. It gives a beautiful, glowing "dewy" finish. It blends like a dream but is slightly richer.
My verdict: Best for dry or normal skin types.
💜 Tower 28 SunnyDays SPF 30
Super lightweight and has a watery, gel-like texture. It claims to help with redness, and it definitely gives a gorgeous "your skin but better" natural finish.
My verdict: Great for a natural, no-makeup makeup look.
👑 Final Winner on my combo skin:
EltaMD wins for me! It doesn't feel greasy at all, absorbs fast, and the texture is just perfect (as you can see in the swatches in Slide 4).

... Read moreIn addition to testing the three popular tinted sunscreens, I found that incorporating products with added skin benefits like niacinamide can be a game-changer for sensitive and acne-prone skin. For example, EltaMD’s tinted sunscreen does a great job calming redness thanks to its niacinamide content, which also supports skin barrier health. When choosing a tinted sunscreen, consider your skin type carefully: richer, moisturizing formulas like Supergoop! Protec(tint) SPF 50 work beautifully for dry or normal skin, giving a dewy, hydrated finish that lasts throughout the day without feeling heavy.
For those seeking a natural and lightweight look, Tower 28 SunnyDays' gel-like texture provides a ‘your skin but better’ effect, perfect to wear alone or under makeup. Its redness-calming claims align well with my observations, and its broad-spectrum SPF 30 offers balanced protection with a non-greasy feel.
Personally, I noticed that while all three sunscreens blend well, EltaMD stood out for its fast absorption and non-greasy, silky texture, which is important when layering with other skincare or makeup. Testing these tinted sunscreens in real life helped me appreciate how tinted SPF can simplify my routine by combining sun protection, light coverage, and soothing skincare ingredients.
When restocking your sunscreen, I recommend considering factors such as your daily environment, skin sensitivity, and long-term skin health goals. Remember, the best tinted sunscreen is one that you’ll enjoy wearing every day, matches your skin needs, and offers reliable protection against UVA and UVB rays. Keep an eye on ingredients like antioxidants and calming agents to support overall skin wellness alongside sun defense.
