My trip to Gozo was truly unforgettable, and the Inland Sea at Dwejra was a major highlight! If you're planning a visit, here’s what I learned to make your experience even better. Getting to Dwejra & Parking: It's quite straightforward to reach Dwejra. We rented a car, and there's a spacious parking area right near the Inland Sea, so finding a spot wasn't an issue. While public transport is an option, having a car gives you so much more flexibility to explore the entire Dwejra area, including the famous Blue Hole viewpoint and the surrounding cliffs. It’s well worth the drive for the stunning scenery! Snorkeling & Diving Paradise: Seriously, if you love being in the water, Dwejra is a dream. The water in the lagoon itself is incredibly calm and crystal clear, making it perfect for beginners or just a leisurely swim. But the real magic happens when you venture through the tunnel. The visibility out in the open sea near the tunnel entrance is often fantastic, revealing colorful fish and interesting rock formations – definitely makes Malta good for snorkeling! For certified divers, the Blue Hole, just a short walk along the coastline, is world-famous. It's a natural rock formation that creates a spectacular dive site, famous for its archway and chimney leading to the open sea. Even if you're not a diver, observing divers entering the Blue Hole from above is quite a sight! Beyond the Lagoon: The Blue Hole Viewpoint & Dramatic Cliffs: Don't just stay by the lagoon! A short walk along the coastline will lead you to the famous Blue Hole. While the iconic Azure Window sadly collapsed, the views of the dramatic turquoise sea crashing against the rugged cliffs from this area are still absolutely breathtaking. When to Visit for the Best Experience: My advice to 'arrive early' is absolutely key, especially during the peak summer season. We went around 9 AM, and it was wonderfully peaceful. It’s a fantastic way to end your day in Gozo. Nearby Exploration: After your swim, snorkel, or boat ride, take a moment to visit the Dwejra Tower, an old watchtower with historical significance, offering panoramic views of the area. Even though the Azure Window is gone, the geological formations around its former site are still impressive to see and explore. Overall, the Inland Sea at Dwejra is a must-see in Gozo.
