Parenting Rules:Before Kids Vs After Kids

Before having kids, we all have big plans for what kind of parents we’ll be… and then reality hits. 😅

Two rules I thought I’d stick with but didn’t:

📺 Strict screen time – Turns out, I grew up with TV in the background, and my kids do too. They don’t always watch it, but I’d go insane without background noise.

📷 Posting my kids everywhere – I thought I’d be fine with it, but I’ve realized how protective I am. Now, I only post their faces on my private accounts for family.

So tell me—what parenting rules did you think you’d follow? Did you stick with them? And if you don’t have kids yet, what rules do you plan to follow? 👀

... Read moreParenting is a journey filled with expectations and realities that often collide. Many parents enter this stage with a set of rules, only to find that real-life challenges force them to adapt. For instance, the much-debated screen time rule tends to bend in favor of some background noise, a common experience among parents who grew up with a TV running in the background. Additionally, the desire to share every moment on social media may fade, giving way to a more protective instinct when it comes to posting photos of children. This shift raises important discussions about privacy and safety in the digital age. The evolving landscape of parenting also encourages parents to reflect on their values and the ways they wish to connect with their children. Engaging in open conversations about what rules have changed—and why—can foster a community of understanding and support. Furthermore, as societal norms evolve, so do the definitions of parenting success. It is essential for parents to recognize that flexibility and awareness of their children's needs are crucial in this ever-changing environment. Are you navigating similar changes in your parenting journey? What strategies have you used to reconcile expectations with the realities of raising children? Join the conversation and share your experiences, whether you're a seasoned parent or still anticipating your journey ahead.

No kids in my bed. LOLOLOL did that one fail and very quickly (7ish months with the first and about 5 months with the second) And screen time too. Always thought I’d be more involved with them, like directly playing, to keep them busy. But I work from home and trying to do it all is too much so I take what I can get!
