books to read this spooky season 🎃📚🍁
barnes and noble is stocked with awesome spooky and macabre books this season! these are all from a little showcase table they had on morbid curiosities and there are so many more on there :)
🔥 smoke gets in your eyes by caitlin doughty: this books looks so super interesting to me! it’s all from the perspective of the author, i think, and she is the one telling about all of the morbid things that she wondered and found out while working at a crematory.
⛏️ the icepick surgeon: murder, fraud, sabotage, piracy, and other dastardly deeds perpetrated in the name of science by sam kean: okay im such a history nerd and love everything macabre so this story collection of tales from the past of messed up things that have happened in the name of science looks insane.
🔪 the butchering art by lindsey fitzharris: another history one but that’s pretty much everything macabre! this one is all about the history of surgery and the discoveries that led to modern medicine working as well as it does. this story focuses on a specific surgeon, joseph lister, who comes up with the idea that germs are the reason for infection and helps develop antiseptics for the future of medicine! so cool :)
🩸 lady killers: deadly women throughout history by tori telfer: my boyfriend got me this one and i cannot wait to read it! this book challenges the stereotype that all serial killers in history have been male and none of them are female. this goes through stories about female serial killers in history and shows just how crazy they can be as well
