Before you read this I just want to note that I am the farthest thing from a "cozy" reader so I hate to sound like I'm being hard on this one. This was also meant to be a comfy side read for me while I'm in a whole different world of war with my main current series. But I had to actually speed it up and get this one over with asap because

Of all the things I can say that I loved or hated, at least the one thing I can admit is this book was not predictable. For the most part anyway! I think a few things could have been edited a little more smoothly. For example, at one point I think someone had been misgendered but it also occurred to me this was probably a typo. The only other negative thing I'll say is this book felt like it went on and on and on and on and on and yet nothing was happening until approximately 68%. It's wild that I made it that far because if I dnf'd this one, it would have been before 50% and it takes a lot for me to dnf a book so I stuck with it and when I passed the thick of the plot, it finally felt like I could easily glide downhill to the end.

But I don't want to discredit the imagination that went into this writing because as someone who usually binges high fantasy books, I love a good fanart haul and I went into this book completely blind. It really challenged my ability to create an original mental visual of the island and characters!
