THE SPELLSHOP BOOK REVIEW:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.25

I really liked this book! I did love the characters! I just wish there was more background about Kiela and Caz past life. I would have love to known how Caz was created. I also wanted a little bit of background of how Kiela grew up and how her parents died.

I really loved the narrator Caitlin Davies. She was amazing!! I absolutely loved her voice for all of the characters!!

... Read moreAfter reading 'The Spellshop,' I totally get why so many of us are captivated by Kiela and Caz! That feeling of wanting more background on our favorite characters is so real, right? It’s not just me; everyone seems to be asking for more about Kiela and Caz. What makes them so magnetic? For me, it's their dynamic – the way they interact and the hints of a shared, mysterious past that Sarah Beth Durst sprinkles throughout. I can't help but imagine Kiela's early life, perhaps growing up in a place that fostered her unique magical abilities, away from the typical human world. And Caz? Oh, Caz! The allure of his creation story is almost as powerful as the spells in the book. Was he born of pure magic, or perhaps a guardian spirit bound to Kiela from a young age? The idea of a sentient magical companion who's been with her through thick and thin adds so much depth. It makes you wonder about the pivotal moments they shared before the story even begins, and how those experiences shaped their unwavering bond. You know, those deep connections are what really make a 'cozy fantasy' truly resonate. Speaking of cozy fantasy, 'The Spellshop' absolutely nails it. Beyond the characters, the whole atmosphere of the book is like a warm hug. The detailed descriptions of the spell shop itself, which I imagine perfectly align with the whimsical, vine-covered cottage on the cover, create such an inviting, magical setting. It’s the kind of place where you can almost smell the herbs and old parchment. The small winged creature on the steps, surrounded by lush greenery, screams 'enchantment' without being overly dark or dangerous. This gentle magic, combined with a sense of wonder and comfort, is exactly what I look for in 'cozy books.' It’s a subgenre that’s really blooming, offering an escape that’s more about charm and discovery than epic battles. And the magic! While the original review wished for more background, I found myself dreaming about the kinds of 'real spell books' Kiela might have in her collection. Not dark, ancient grimoires, but perhaps beautifully illustrated tomes filled with practical, heartwarming spells for everyday enchantments – like mending broken hearts or making tea taste extra delicious. And can we talk about the merhorses? That was such a delightful and unexpected element! It adds another layer of unique fantasy to the world, making it feel expansive yet still rooted in that delightful, whimsical charm. I pictured them with shimmering scales, gliding through calm, magical waters – a truly imaginative touch that sticks with you. The book cover itself, as mentioned in the OCR, is a piece of art that perfectly sets the tone. That whimsical cottage and lush garden instantly pull you into Kiela's world. It's no wonder people are creating 'The Spellshop fanart'! For Kiela's physical description, while the book doesn't go into extensive detail, I imagine her embodying the spirit of her shop – perhaps with a kind, observant gaze, hands that look capable of both delicate spellcasting and practical work, and an aura of quiet wisdom. She's the kind of character you'd naturally want to sketch or paint, bringing her and Caz to life in your own imagination. The cover definitely inspires that creative spark. Overall, 'The Spellshop' is a gem for anyone craving a cozy, character-driven fantasy. Even with my few wishes for more backstory, the journey with Kiela and Caz was utterly enchanting, thanks in no small part to the world-building and those magical details that make you believe in spell books and merhorses.
