I’m the calm and the chaos
The open arms and the slammed door
I’ll make you feel safe
And still question everything
I cry when no one’s looking
Then wipe my face like nothing happened
I pour love into people
Even when they forget to pour it back
I’ve been too much
And never enough
I’ve bent backwards just to be seen
And still felt invisible
I hold tenderness in one hand
And fire in the other
I’m not here to be liked
I’m here to be real
I’ve said the wrong thing
At the right time
Loved people who didn’t stay
And stayed when I should’ve walked
I wear guilt like a second skin
But I still show up
Still give
Still try
Even when I’m running on empty
I’m not built for perfect
I’m built for surviving
For rising
For loving
For falling apart
And trying again anyway
I’m human
All the contradictions
All the softness
All the rage
All the heart
I’m not simple
But I am true

This poem eloquently delves into the complex nature of human emotions and the delicate balance between opposing forces within us. Themes such as safety contrasted with doubt, tenderness alongside fire, and the ongoing struggle with guilt and invisibility highlight the multifaceted human experience. From a psychological perspective, embracing these contradictions is essential for emotional well-being. Recognizing that feelings of being "too much" and "never enough" are common human experiences can foster self-compassion and reduce feelings of isolation. The poem’s emphasis on showing up and trying despite running on empty speaks to human resilience and the drive to keep rising after setbacks. Such poetry resonates widely because it reflects authentic emotions that many people encounter but rarely articulate. The hashtags associated with the poem (#fyp, #poem, #poetry, #imhuman, #behappy) indicate its relevance in communities seeking self-expression and emotional connection. Reading and reflecting on poetry that embraces vulnerability helps improve mental health by validating emotional complexity, encouraging acceptance of imperfections, and promoting genuine self-expression. It can also inspire readers to acknowledge their own inner contradictions and the continuous effort involved in loving, surviving, and growing. In summary, this poem serves as a powerful reminder that being human means embracing all aspects of ourselves with honesty and courage, celebrating not simplicity or perfection, but truth and authenticity.
