This is Tashirojima, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, a small island with a few dozen people, and cats live many times more than humans.

The story begins hundreds of years ago, the islanders engaged in raising silk to produce silk.

But there's a problem...So a lot of mice came to eat, so people started keeping cats to help get rid of mice.

Over time, the islanders believed that 🐈 cats brought fortune, abundance, and protected fishermen from safe passage home until the Neko Jinja Shrine was built to commemorate a cat who died in an accident during work.

Today, Tashiro Jima has become the dream destination of cat lovers from around the world. There are no traffic lights, no high-rises, but you can find cats sunbathing, walking, or welcoming tourists in almost every corner of the island, and by belief of fortune, the islanders also ask for cooperation not to bring dogs to the island to keep the pussy.
