The Kickstarter Hook
WE HAVE UNTIL FRIDAY TO PUT RURAL ALBERTA ON THE BIG SCREEN.
For the last year, I’ve traveled to 25 small towns across this province. And what I found wasn't empty space. I found the farmers putting food on our tables, the volunteers keeping the lights on, and the unsung heroes who just show up for each other.
I found a people displaying the world’s largest heart.
Now, it’s time to take their stories to the big screen in a feature-length documentary—but we're sitting right on the goal line, and we need your help.
We’ve been conditionally greenlit for a $111,000 provincial grant. But to unlock those funds by this Friday, we have to prove that Albertans actually want this film made.
The wrong story gets ignored. But the right story—our story—builds confidence, protects our culture, and accelerates action.
I’m not asking for a handout. I’m asking for a vote.
There's a good old Albertan song about writing your name on a $5 bill. That’s what I’m asking you to do today. Go to our Kickstarter, pledge $5 or more, and cast your vote. Let’s show the province that the backbone of Alberta matters.

(P.S. To the businesses, agricultural brands, and economic development teams watching this: If you want to help us close the remaining production gap and align your brand with a project that connects with rural communities in a way that feels authentic, not transactional... my DMs are open. Let’s help good work travel further.)
Having spent considerable time exploring rural Alberta myself, I've witnessed firsthand the profound resilience and generosity that define these small towns. Beyond just landscapes, the true essence of rural Alberta lies in its people—the farmers who work tirelessly to provide food, the community volunteers who ensure vital services remain active, and the deeply interconnected spirit that supports everyone involved. This Kickstarter campaign isn’t simply about funding a film; it’s about preserving a narrative that often goes unheard. With the conditional $111,000 provincial grant waiting to be unlocked, pledging on Kickstarter becomes more than just a financial contribution—it’s a vote of confidence for rural communities and their stories. If you’re considering backing this project, think of it as writing your name on a symbolic $5 bill—a gesture that ties you to the authentic culture of Alberta’s heartland. From my experience, projects like these foster community pride and encourage wider public appreciation for rural lifestyles, which can have lasting social and economic impacts. For businesses and agricultural organizations, collaborating with this project offers a unique chance to authentically connect with rural audiences. It’s not a transactional sponsorship, but rather an alignment with stories that inspire and unite. Supporting Backroads Alberta through Kickstarter showcases a shared commitment to community, heritage, and storytelling. If you haven’t visited the Kickstarter page yet, I highly recommend doing so soon—there’s a limited window to help turn these vital stories into a feature film that truly reflects the spirit of rural Alberta.
