🎬 Movies are my thing, horror movies specifically. It’s a goal of mine to carve out time for at least 1-2 movies a day. After a long year with many new additions to the horror family, let me tell you what’s worth watching. Let me know if I missed one of your favorites!

🎬 Netflix: I’ll say this is probably the worst streaming service for horror. However there are some hidden gems and some classics.

🎬 Amazon Prime: Prime has something a lot of services don’t have, options to add on other services. Shudder, Max, Paramount + and more provide more content than the original service. For the sake of my recommendations, I’ll stick to just Prime.

🎬 Hulu: Best for last. Hulu has some of the absolute best new and old horror movies of any platform. Plus, depending on your cell phone provider, it’s free!
... Read moreHey fellow horror fanatics! As someone who practically lives and breathes scary movies – I've watched well over 300 films this year alone! – I know the struggle of finding that perfect fright. My last post gave you a solid starting point, but let's dive even deeper into navigating the terrifying waters of streaming services to find your next obsession. I'm talking about which platforms truly shine for horror, and how to find those specific scares, whether you're into jump scares or deep psychological dread.
Netflix: The Hidden Gem Hunter's Paradise
While I mentioned Netflix can be a bit hit or miss for horror, it's definitely worth digging. Beyond the well-known titles, I often stumble upon indie gems that are surprisingly good. It’s a great place for discovery if you’re patient, but don't expect a consistently curated horror experience like some specialized services. You might find a psychological thriller like 'Gerald's Game' one week and an international found-footage film like 'Incantation' the next. It keeps you on your toes, which, for a horror fan, can be part of the fun!
Amazon Prime Video: The Gateway to the Ultimate Horror Hub
This is where things get really interesting for serious horror lovers. My initial list focused just on Prime's included offerings, but the real power here lies in its add-on channels. Services like Shudder are an absolute game-changer. If you're looking for a consistently high-quality, diverse range of horror – from classics to avant-garde, even some demon-themed flicks – Shudder, available through Prime, is an unmissable resource. It truly answers the call for a reliable platform that understands horror. You get everything from psychological thrillers to extreme gore, so you can tailor your experience. For example, if you're hunting for 'demon horror,' you'll find plenty of options that delve into possession and dark rituals here.
Hulu: Balancing New Hits with Cult Classics
Still my top pick for its incredible variety. What I love about Hulu is its balance of recent theatrical releases and cult classics. If you're into more atmospheric, less gory horror, Hulu has fantastic options. Movies like 'No One Will Save You' or 'The Visit' offer suspense and dread without relying on excessive blood. It’s also fantastic for finding those thought-provoking, psychologically intense films that leave you thinking long after the credits roll. For those seeking 'atmospheric not gory picks,' Hulu consistently delivers. Think 'Midsommar' for unsettling dread or 'Hereditary' for a masterclass in psychological terror, both readily available.
Finding Your Perfect Scare: Beyond the List
Beyond just listing movies, how do you find what you'll love? If you're like me and sometimes crave horror that's more about building tension than jump scares, look for terms like 'psychological thriller,' 'supernatural horror,' or 'slow burn.' For those after 'demon horror,' titles like 'The Exorcist' (on Hulu!) or 'Incantation' (on Netflix) are obvious choices, but don't shy away from international films which often bring fresh takes on demonic possession and ancient evils. Remember, a good horror movie isn't just about gore; it's about making you feel something deep in your gut, whether it's existential dread or pure terror. Explore! Read reviews (but avoid spoilers!), and don't be afraid to try something outside your comfort zone. You might discover your new favorite scary movie!
The world of horror streaming is vast and ever-evolving. With so many incredible options across these platforms, you're truly spoiled for choice. It's exciting to know that no matter your preference – be it classic slashers, modern psychological thrillers, or just a good old 'demon' haunting – there's always something spine-chilling waiting for you. Happy watching, and may your nights be full of spooky cinematic delights!
