Foam pads have been a game changer ✅
In my experience with screen printing, foam pads have truly transformed how I handle printing on tricky areas such as pockets, seams, zippers, and jeans fly areas. Before I started using foam pads, the prints often looked distorted or incomplete in these spots, which was frustrating especially when working on detailed designs. What makes foam pads so effective is their ability to create an even, slightly cushioned surface underneath the garment, filling in gaps caused by seams and zippers. This prevents the ink from skipping or getting trapped, resulting in a crisp and clear print. I typically recycle inexpensive foam mats, like generic workout or yoga mats, cutting them to the exact size needed for the platen I’m using. It’s a budget-friendly option since these mats are available almost anywhere. To keep the foam pad securely in place during printing, I add strips of double-sided tape on top of the foam. This extra layer of adhesion ensures the pad doesn't move with each press, especially when working on thicker seams or bulky pockets. The difference is noticeable immediately — prints that once struggled to show fully on structured clothing areas now come out sharp and professional-looking. If you’re new to screen printing or have been avoiding printing on pockets and seams due to poor results, I highly recommend trying out this simple foam pad setup. It’s a game changer that significantly improves print quality without requiring expensive tools or complicated techniques. Plus, you can customize the pads for every size and shape you encounter, making your printing process more versatile and efficient.
