... Read moreMany of us don’t realize how easily we can lose ourselves while trying to be patient, understanding, or easygoing in relationships or life situations. I experienced this slowly—almost imperceptibly—until one day, I noticed that I had stopped checking in with my own feelings and needs. Interestingly, it didn’t feel like neglect or self-abandonment at the time; it felt like love. This is a common yet overlooked experience where prioritizing others or circumstances blurs our own identity. For women especially, this process can be gradual, as noted in the insightful phrase, “Some women don't lose themselves in relationships overnight. They slowly become easier to keep... and harder to recognize.” This resonated deeply with me because the transformation is subtle, and the shift to putting yourself last is often mistaken for caring or sacrifice. It takes courage and awareness to acknowledge that what feels like love might actually be diminishing your authentic self. Reconciling with this realization was the turning point in my healing journey. Reconnecting with myself meant learning to recognize when my actions were rooted in self-abandonment rather than genuine affection. It also meant practicing self-trust and self-compassion—to be patient not just with others, but with my own needs and boundaries. If you find yourself adapting constantly and losing touch with who you truly are, know that you’re not alone. The path back to yourself is filled with self-healing, rebuilding emotional trust, and confronting feelings of loneliness that may have accompanied the disconnection. Embracing this journey allows you to rediscover your voice and live more authentically. Remember, love that costs your authentic self is not love—it’s a call to be your voice. Stay present with yourself and honor your emotional well-being; it’s the foundation for all healthy relationships and inner peace.
