After speeding through Fourth Wing I immediately grabbed this. It did take me longer to get through, however I Only kept putting it off because I didnt want it to end. I ABSOLUTELY loved this book and cried when I realized I would have to wait a year for the 3rd book 😭 This book has me DISTRAUGHT. 10/10 for fantasy, adventure, romance, everything. #BookReview#ironflame#rebeccayarros#booktok#adultfantasy #fantasybooks #ironflame #fourthwing #romancebooks #stressed

... Read moreOkay, fellow dragon riders, let's talk *Iron Flame*. Like many of you, I tore through Fourth Wing and then immediately plunged into its sequel. And honestly? My heart is still recovering! The original review perfectly captured that feeling of being utterly distraught by the ending – I mean, seriously, Rebecca Yarros, how could you leave us hanging like that?! That image of gripping the book, feeling that mix of love and pure frustration, is so relatable. The golden dragon on the cover promises epicness, and boy, does this book deliver, but it also delivers a heavy dose of emotional upheaval.
What truly makes Iron Flame a 10/10 for me, despite the emotional rollercoaster, is the incredible depth Rebecca Yarros brings to her characters and world. Violet's journey continues to be inspiring, but it's the complexities of her relationships, especially with Xaden, that truly shine. The stakes are higher, the betrayals cut deeper, and every page pulls you further into the war-torn world of Basgiath. I found myself gasping aloud, cheering for small victories, and yes, shedding more than a few tears. The pacing is relentless, the action sequences are vivid, and the underlying romance is just... *chef's kiss*. It’s not just a love story; it’s a story about loyalty, sacrifice, and finding your strength when everything is falling apart around you.
Now, for the agonizing wait for book three – I feel your pain! It's been tough, knowing we have to hold on for so long. To cope, I've found a few strategies that might help. Firstly, re-reading Fourth Wing and Iron Flame has actually been surprisingly rewarding. You pick up on so many little details and foreshadowing that you missed the first time around. Secondly, diving into other fantasy romance series has been a lifesaver. If you're craving more dragons and intense magic, I'd highly recommend checking out Naomi Novik's 'Temeraire' series for unique dragon perspectives, or Jennifer L. Armentrout's 'From Blood and Ash' series if you want more intricate world-building and steamy romance. For those who enjoy the dark academia vibe mixed with fantasy, 'A Deadly Education' by Naomi Novik is also fantastic.
Another thing that's helped is diving into fan theories online. It's fascinating to see what other readers are predicting for the next installment and to discuss the impact of that ending. Seriously, the discussions about the final chapters of Iron Flame are endless, and it’s a great way to process all those feelings. Whether it’s speculating about character fates or theorizing about the true nature of the magic system, connecting with the fandom has made the wait a little less unbearable. So, while we collectively gnaw our nails waiting for Rebecca Yarros to bless us with the next book, let's keep discussing, re-reading, and finding new literary adventures to tide us over!
