TIGGER, my crested Gecko!!
Ever since I welcomed Tigger, my adorable orange-brown crested gecko, into my life, it's been such a joy! You often see pictures of them perched calmly on a finger or hand, and I can confirm, they really are as sweet as they look. I was a bit nervous about handling him at first, but Tigger quickly showed me how gentle he is. Watching him navigate my hand with his long tail for balance is just mesmerizing. One thing I absolutely love about crested geckos is their unique personality. Sometimes Tigger will just stare at me from his enclosure, and I always wonder what he's thinking! It's one of their quirky behaviors that makes them so charming. They might seem a bit silly climbing around, but it's all part of their natural instincts. It’s amazing to think these little guys originally come from the New Caledonia rainforests, which explains their love for humidity and climbing. If you're thinking about getting a crested gecko, they truly are fantastic pets, even for beginners. They don't need a huge amount of space compared to some other reptiles, and their care is relatively straightforward. For instance, many people ask about telling a crested gecko's gender. With babies, it can be tricky, but as they mature, males develop distinct bulges at the base of their tail. It's not like using a flashlight on a bearded dragon; it's a visual check you learn over time! Another super interesting fact is about their tails. Did you know crested geckos can drop their tails if they feel threatened or stressed? And unlike some other lizards, they cannot regrow them. It's a sad but fascinating biological defense mechanism. Thankfully, Tigger has never dropped his, and I try my best to keep him happy and stress-free. There are also so many beautiful crested gecko morphs out there, like the 'cappuccino' morph which has stunning patterns. Tigger's classic orange-brown color with his adorable crests is perfect for me, though! They really are cute pets, whether they're babies or fully grown. I've learned so much since Tigger joined my family, and I wouldn't trade his calm, gentle presence for anything.
