Must add foodie spot on your Singapore trip

If you want the true Singaporean experience, in the evenings, drop in at the Lau Pat Sat.

Open 24 hours of the day, this hawker is located in the heart of the city with every possible food choice on the menu.

Wins in my book:

♥️ Tons of food options

♥️ Locally loved

♥️ 24-hour available

♥️ Rich history

♥️ Affordable

Favorite part of the meal: (Pic 5) Malay style fried rice with an omelet ontop

🍛This was my FAVORITE (and we ate our weight in food haha) It's a pasta dish with an omelet ontop dressed with an orange sweet sauce which mixed together was a mix of sweet and zesty.

Other foods I tried there:

🧡 Curry with naan bread (another favorite)

💛 Shimp skewers

🧡 Squid skewers (VERY SPICY, I cried 🌶️)

💛 Chicken skewers

🧡 A whole coconut 🥥

💛 Butter Chicken

🧡 Chicken Murtabak

💛 Muton Satay (a must try)

🧡 Lotus Leaf Baked Seafood Fried rice

I suggest going in the evening! 🌆

They close down the road and convert the surrounding streets to a picnic seating.

(Warning ⚠️ getting seats in the evening is an unspoken competition to find)

You can order your food from each stall or there will be workers down there that will help you buy your food and find you seats in the evenings

This was my go to spot while studying in Singapore! I hope you enjoy it on your trip! 🦁

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Lau Pa Sat
2024/12/21 Edited to

... Read moreOkay, so you've heard about Lau Pa Sat, but let me tell you, the real magic happens after dark, specifically on what everyone calls 'Satay Street'! I can't stress this enough: if you're in Singapore, experiencing Lau Pa Sat's outdoor hawker center at night is an absolute must. Around 7 PM, something incredible happens. The entire Boon Tat Street, right outside the main Lau Pa Sat building, gets completely shut down to traffic. In its place? Rows upon rows of pop-up stalls, smoke rising from charcoal grills, and tables spilling out onto the road. It transforms into an open-air dining paradise, aptly named 'Satay Street @ Lau Pa Sat'. The smell of sizzling meat and spices fills the air – it's intoxicating! What makes this night-time transformation so special is the focus on grilled skewers, particularly the legendary satay. While the main hawker center has everything, Satay Street is dedicated to this one delicious art. You'll find vendors specializing in chicken, beef, mutton, and even prawn satay. Each skewer is marinated to perfection, grilled over an open flame until it's tender and slightly charred, then served with a generous dollop of that rich, sweet, and spicy peanut sauce. My personal ritual was to try a mix of everything, dipping each bite into the sauce – pure heaven! Don't forget the accompanying cucumber and onion slices to cleanse your palate between bites. Beyond the satay, many stalls also offer other fantastic grilled seafood options like stingray and prawns, often served on banana leaves. These grilled delights, alongside the famous omelet dish and murtabak you might find inside, make for a truly epic feast. And yes, my love for curry with naan extended even to the night-time street! Now, a little heads-up: because it's so popular, finding a seat can feel like an Olympic sport, especially on weekends! My tip? Head there a little earlier, maybe around 6:30 PM, just as the street is starting to set up. You'll get a better pick of tables. Also, don't be shy to ask the friendly staff – sometimes they’ll help you spot an empty table or even take your orders from various stalls so you don’t have to run around. It really adds to the vibrant, communal dining experience. There's nothing quite like sitting under the twinkling lights of the skyscrapers, the buzz of conversation around you, and a plate full of delicious grilled skewers in front of you. It's truly the heart of Singapore's food culture, especially at night. Whether you're a solo traveler or with a group, the energy of Lau Pa Sat Satay Street after dark is something you'll remember long after your trip. It's not just a meal; it's an immersive cultural experience that perfectly captures the spirit of Singapore.
