movement for the week of your period

cycle syncing is so interesting to learn more about & I personally struggle to get moving during the week of my period

but it is SO important to your health during this phase of your cycle

the key is to keep it low impact (and stay hydrated!!)

... Read moreHey everyone! I wanted to share a game-changer that has completely transformed my period week. Like many of you, I used to feel completely drained and unmotivated to move when my period hit. The thought of a high-intensity workout was just a no-go. But after diving into cycle syncing, I realized that movement during this phase isn't just possible, it's actually incredibly beneficial – as long as you choose the right kind! The key, I've learned, is to keep it low impact. This isn't about pushing yourself to your limits; it's about supporting your body when it needs it most. And trust me, it actually helps with so many of those pesky period symptoms. I've found two types of movement that have become my absolute favorites for tackling cramps, boosting my mood, and just generally feeling better. Walking: My Go-To for Cramp & Mood Relief First up is walking. Seriously, never underestimate the power of a good walk! When I’m dealing with period cramps, the last thing I want to do is curl up on the couch (though I do that too sometimes!). But a brisk walk, even just 20-30 minutes, can work wonders. I've noticed it significantly helps alleviate period cramps by improving circulation and releasing those feel-good endorphins. It’s also fantastic for mood swings. If I’m feeling a bit irritable or low, getting outside and moving my body almost instantly lifts my spirits. I love putting on my headphones and just enjoying the fresh air. It's such an accessible way to stay active, whether you're walking around your neighborhood or finding a scenic trail. And don't forget to stay hydrated – especially when you're moving! Low-Impact Strength Training: Gentle Power for Your Body My second secret weapon is low-impact strength training. This isn't about heavy lifting or jumping; it's about gentle, controlled movements that build and maintain strength without stressing your body. I used to think 'strength training' meant gritting your teeth through intense reps, but during my period, it's about supporting my muscles and reducing tension. I've found it incredibly helpful for reducing that feeling of lactic acid build-up and overall muscle tension that can sometimes accompany my cycle. The best part? You can do most of it right at home! I often use my own body weight for exercises like squats, lunges, and glute bridges. Sometimes, I'll incorporate light resistance bands – those pink ones you see everywhere are perfect – for an extra challenge without the high impact. Think slow and controlled movements, focusing on form rather than speed or weight. It helps maintain muscle tone, supports your posture, and can even help with energy levels. It’s about being kind to your body while still giving it the strength it needs. By adapting my routine, I've learned that you can absolutely maintain your fitness journey without feeling like you're fighting against your body during this sensitive time. Remember, the goal isn't to push through pain, but to support your body's natural processes. Listen to what feels good. Some days it might be a leisurely stroll, other days a gentle strength routine. Staying hydrated is always key, no matter what movement you choose. Embracing these low-impact movements has made my period weeks so much more manageable and even enjoyable. Give it a try and see how much better you feel!
