why are emotions SO messy rn??

why are emotions SO messy while on my period? 😅 i used to wonder if it was just me... why one moment i’d feel perfectly fine, and the next i’d be crying over something that normally wouldn’t bother me at all. or why a small comment would feel like the end of the world. it wasn’t that i was “too sensitive” it was my hormones doing their thing. during the luteal phase and right before my period, estrogen and progesterone dip, and it can affect mood, sleep, and even motivation. for me, this means i feel more irritable, anxious, and sometimes extra sad. it’s like my emotional volume gets turned way up, and there’s no mute button. i used to think i had to “push through” every mood swing, but now i see that honoring them actually helps me feel steadier overall.

i’m curious… do your emotions get messy during your period too? how do you cope or make it easier on yourself during that time? let’s talk about it 💛

... Read moreExperiencing intense emotions during your period is more common than you might think, and it’s all tied to the natural hormonal fluctuations happening in your body. As estrogen and progesterone levels fall during the luteal phase and right before menstruation, they can profoundly affect not only your mood but also your sleep, motivation, and overall mental well-being. Many people notice that they become more irritable, anxious, or even unexpectedly tearful over things that normally wouldn’t bother them. This heightened emotional state is like having your emotional volume turned up without a mute button. What’s important to understand is that these feelings aren’t a sign of being "too sensitive" or "overreacting" — they’re a biological response. Rather than pushing through these emotional waves, giving yourself grace and permission to feel what you’re feeling can actually help stabilize your mood throughout this time. Simple acts like allowing yourself more rest, enjoying comfort foods mindfully, and avoiding judgment of your emotions can make a significant difference. Additionally, it’s useful to recognize common triggers during this time. For example, everyday frustrations or even touching media like commercials or songs may evoke stronger reactions, as you've likely noticed. Coping strategies such as journaling, gentle exercise, meditation, or simply reaching out to friends who understand your experience can be very supportive. Many find that talking openly about period-related emotional changes reduces stigma and promotes self-compassion. Remember, emotions running high once a month is a shared experience for many and honoring this part of your cycle helps you navigate it with more ease and kindness toward yourself.
