THE APPLE DOESN’T FALL FAR FROM THE TREE.
You know that saying, "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree"? Well, I swear it was coined specifically for me and my French Bulldog, Lilly! If you've ever had a Frenchie, you know they come with a hefty dose of personality, but Lilly takes it to a whole new level. Sometimes I wonder if she picked up her sassy streak directly from me, or if it's just an inherent French Bulldog trait that perfectly complements my own. Just yesterday, I caught her giving the mail carrier her signature 'side-eye' through the window, followed by a series of indignant barks. I found myself saying, "Lilly, we do not bark at people outside!" It's a phrase I've repeated countless times. And what was her response? A defiant 'woof' and a stare that clearly said, "Are you being sassy too?" It’s uncanny how she mirrors my expressions sometimes! It really made me chuckle, even though I was trying to be firm. Then there are the 'timeout' moments. When Lilly decides that a particular toy or spot on the couch is hers and absolutely no one else's, she can get a bit possessive. If I try to intervene, she'll protest loudly. I once had to put her in a brief "timeout" in her crate because she just wouldn't stop trying to 'herd' the cat. As I walked away, I heard a little whine, and I just knew she was thinking, "You cannot come out of timeout if you do that!" – a line I've used on her many times. It’s not just the barking or the timeout drama; it's her whole demeanor. When she wants attention, she'll sit and stare with unwavering intensity until you give in. If you ignore her, she’ll let out a dramatic sigh, as if the world’s greatest injustice has just occurred. It reminds me so much of my own theatrical tendencies. It makes me wonder, do our pets really reflect our own quirks back at us? I think with Lilly, the answer is a resounding yes! For anyone dealing with a sassy puppy or a French Bulldog with a big personality, consistency is key, but so is a sense of humor. They test our patience, but they fill our lives with so much joy and laughter. And honestly, I wouldn't trade Lilly's sass for anything. It’s a constant reminder that the apple really doesn't fall far from the tree, and in our case, that means double the fun, double the love, and definitely double the sass. What hilarious things has your dog picked up from you?
