Who Else Wished They Were Shorter Growing Up?

There was a time I really hated being the tallest in my friend group. I’d slouch in photos, try to disappear in a crowd, and even thought about sneaking in flats just to “fit in.” 😂 Back then, I wished I could shrink a few inches and be like everyone else. Now? I love my height. Reaching the top shelf, never getting lost in a crowd, and even just standing tall feels like a little superpower. Who else remembers this awkward height phase growing up?

... Read moreWhen I was younger, especially in middle school, I remember desperately wishing I could just shrink a few inches. You know that feeling when you're 5'7" and all your friends are, well, 'vertically challenged' compared to you? It felt like I stuck out everywhere. I'd secretly Google things like 'how to decrease height by 2 inches' or 'can my height shrink' – not because I actually thought it was possible, but because I just wanted to feel *normal*. It’s a strange thing, wanting to change something so fundamental about yourself, just to blend in with your 'tallest friend group' or avoid standing out. Being the tallest came with its own set of awkward moments. I’d try to slouch in photos, hoping to magically appear shorter, and always felt like I was towering over everyone. Shopping for clothes was a nightmare – sleeves were always too short, and dresses often felt more like tunics. There were times I truly felt like my height was holding me back, making me feel clumsy or conspicuous. I even remember thinking, 'I hate being used' for my height, meaning I hated how it made me feel exposed or different in social settings. But somewhere along the way, something shifted. Maybe it was seeing other confident tall women, or perhaps it was just growing up and realizing that fitting in isn't always the goal. I started to notice the perks: always having a clear view at concerts, never getting lost in a crowd, and yes, reaching those top shelves effortlessly – it truly felt like a superpower! The mirror selfies that once highlighted my 'tallness' started to showcase a confident woman embracing her unique stature. I stopped asking 'whos taller' and started celebrating my own height. If you're reading this and you've ever secretly wished you were shorter, or felt like your height was a burden, I want you to know you're not alone. It’s a journey to self-acceptance, and it doesn't happen overnight. My advice? Start by recognizing the unique advantages your height gives you. Maybe it's a longer stride, a better perspective, or just a striking presence. Experiment with fashion that celebrates your long lines instead of trying to hide them. And most importantly, surround yourself with people who celebrate *you*, not just your physical attributes. It's empowering to realize that what once felt like a 'tall girl problem' can actually be one of your greatest strengths. From feeling like I had to hide, to confidently taking mirror selfies and owning every inch, my perspective has completely flipped. Your height isn't something to shrink from; it's a part of what makes you uniquely you. Embrace it, stand tall, and let your confidence shine. You might just find your own superpower in the process.

Hey girl me too! I’m 5’7 and a half lol. Been this tall since middle school and most of my friends are between 4’11 and 5’3 😅. I love my height now but I attract short kings and that’s not always fun 🤭.

tbh I still wish I was shorter. I mean, 5'7 sounds nice. I'm 5'10. I didn't feel like photos were a big problem, but I was literally one of the tallest people in my school. Rivaling most boys. it was cool in grade school but not in highschool. I literally never wore heels 😅
