Could You Handle Birth Control Side Effects?

I almost got an IUD, but seeing my cousin pass out from hers at work was terrifying.

She ended up fainting multiple times at the hospital, in front of her students and one day it just happened at work.

Watching that video scared me to my core. I kept thinking: what if she was somewhere dangerous?

Nothing online prepares you for seeing someone you care about go through this. It made me pause and think: am I willing to risk my safety just to follow what everyone says is simple?

I’m not shaming anyone who chooses birth control, but witnessing that firsthand was enough for me to say NO.

... Read moreWatching a loved one experience severe side effects like fainting from an IUD can profoundly impact how we view birth control safety. Many people hear that birth control options like IUDs are easy and safe, but real-life experiences sometimes reveal hidden challenges that online sources may minimize. Dizziness, fainting, and other side effects are not uncommon but frequently underreported. These symptoms can occur when the body reacts poorly to the device, causing discomfort and even dangerous situations if they happen unexpectedly, such as at work or in public. This story highlights the importance of personal safety over societal pressure to conform to certain contraceptives. If you or someone you know is considering an IUD or any birth control, it’s essential to be aware of all potential side effects and monitor any unusual reactions carefully. Consulting with healthcare providers about specific risks, alternative methods, and what to expect can help individuals make informed decisions aligned with their health needs. Additionally, sharing personal experiences like this encourages open conversations about birth trauma and wellness, breaking the stigma and helping others prepare realistically for what birth control might involve. Remember, no birth control method is one-size-fits-all. Being informed and attentive to your own body’s responses ensures safer and more effective contraceptive choices. Prioritizing safety means listening to your body and making decisions that protect your well-being above all else.

Sorry this happened to your cousin! Which IUD did she have? I had the Paraguard in for 11 years because my body could not tolerate hormones.

It’s different for everyone. There’s a good chance your poor cousin had a reaction or it was improperly placed. Birth control was a life saver for me when I was younger. My endometriosis was so painful that I could barely stand and my bleeding was so severe that I was getting woozy from anemia. Every body is different. Please don’t let someone else’s experience be the only reason for your healthcare journey ❤️
