It is associated with cardiovascular problems, with 28% higher near cattle farms and 11% higher near pig farms compared to similar counties without industrial farms.
Researchers at the University of Michigan have mapped over 15,000 cattle and swine farms (AFOs) across the U.S., which collectively raise 70% of cattle and 98% of pigs in the entire country.
The study says AFOs are concentrated in only 30 counties, out of more than 3,000 counties across the country.
A clear centralized distribution and a region of inequality from most Latino communities that already face socio-economic disadvantages.
