This was our Sunday meal, and we went out to a restaurant. We didn’t order dessert there. Instead, we stopped at the store and ate dessert when we got home 🍰
There was about 30–45 minutes between the meal and dessert. Some might call that two meals. I consider it one meal, within about a 1–2 hour window.
I ate that… and I didn’t have anything else the rest of the day or that morning for that matter, except coffee.
I’ve been a little more flexible these last few days — still mindful, still aware — and yes, cautious, because I never want to fall back into bingeing.
But we were enjoying family time 🤍, and I didn’t want to sit it out.
I originally planned to have one piece of dessert, but I tried three different things. I enjoyed it. I don’t regret it.
When we got home, I went for a 2-mile walk 🚶♀️, and that felt good.
I was hungrier than usual this day — it was a church day, and sometimes after church, you’re just hungry.
So yes… one meal.
Or one and a half.
Either way, it was intentional.

For example, spacing dessert about 30 to 45 minutes after a meal can feel like one continuous, satisfying eating experience, rather than separate meals. This approach supports a flexible mindset, which is crucial for maintaining long-term success and avoiding binge patterns. In addition, incorporating light physical activity, such as a 2-mile walk after eating, really helps me reconnect with my body and promotes digestion. I also find that church days or other spiritually uplifting events can increase hunger, which I now understand is a natural response. By approaching these moments with mindfulness and a biblical perspective, I nurture not only physical health but also my soul’s prosperity. Engaging with community resources like weekly weigh-ins, digital mindful eating journals, and webinars has been invaluable. These tools provide accountability and continual inspiration, reminding me that mindful eating isn’t about perfection but progress. Applying teachings from biblical studies, especially passages from Romans 6-8, through a nutritional lens offers a profound framework to break the hold of gluttony.
