We almost slept thru this RM2 breakfast in Penang

ngl, we really thought we missed it. Everyone says this place sells out by around 930am, and we only reached after 10. We were prepared to walk away hungry 🫠 Then somehow, the stall is opened 🤯

These apoms are cooked in claypots over a charcoal fire, so the edges are lightly crispy while the inside stays fluffy with just a hint of sweetness. Simple, comforting, and the kind of breakfast that makes you slow down and enjoy the moment.

Best part, it’s only RM2 per piece, or 6 for RM5 if want more. You can even add an egg if you want something more filling 🍳 They closed around noon when we were there, so if this is on your list, going early is still the safest move.

If you love finding local food when you travel, this is one of those spots worth waking up for!

Ravi's Claypot Appom Manis

1/10 Edited to

... Read moreIf you're planning to visit Ravi’s Claypot Appom Manis, here are some tips to make the most of your experience. The apoms are freshly cooked in claypots over a charcoal fire, giving them a unique combination of lightly crispy edges and soft, fluffy centers with a subtle sweetness. This traditional cooking method adds a smoky aroma you won't find in regular street food. Try to arrive early, preferably before 9:30 AM, as the stall often sells out quickly. However, from our experience, they do sometimes stay open past 10 AM, but it’s best not to risk it if you’re craving these goodies. The cost is incredibly affordable—only RM2 per piece or 6 for RM5—making it a fantastic budget-friendly breakfast option. For a more filling meal, consider adding an egg for just RM3 extra, which pairs wonderfully with the sweet, fluffy apom. The shop is located at Swee Kong Coffee Shop, 317 Jalan Burma, George Town, making it easy to find if you’re exploring the area. Many locals and travelers alike highly recommend this spot, not only for the taste but also for the quick and friendly service despite its popularity. It’s a perfect stop for those who want to enjoy a simple yet satisfying local breakfast and slow down to savor the moment. Don’t forget your camera to capture the unique cooking style at the claypot! If you want to dive deeper into local Penang food culture, asking locals or checking recent reviews online can provide current updates on opening times and menu variations. There's a charm in discovering hidden food spots like this one that really let you eat like a local.
