what i regret about college

2024/7/21 Edited to

... Read moreIt’s funny how hindsight works, isn’t it? Looking back at my college days, there’s a distinct ache when I think about what I didn’t do, especially when it came to academics. The feeling of 'student regretting not studying' really hits home because, honestly, that's one of my biggest takeaways. It wasn't just about getting top grades for the sake of it, but about the depth of learning I missed out on, the intellectual curiosity I didn't fully indulge, and the opportunities that might have opened up if I'd truly pushed myself. I remember days when I'd prioritize social events or just chilling over hitting the books. It felt right at the moment, part of the 'college experience,' but now I realize the balance was off. I didn't even consider trying to get distinction when I probably could have. That feeling of 'what if' still lingers. It wasn't just about the GPA; it was about the personal satisfaction of knowing I gave it my all, that I mastered a subject, or explored a field deeply. Missing out on that intellectual challenge is a regret I carry. And it's not just the pure studying aspect. My regrets also extend to not trying harder to make friends in academic circles or not joining any clubs related to my major, mostly due to time limitations I imposed on myself. I thought I was too busy, but looking back, I could have structured my time better to include both social and intellectual pursuits. Building those connections, engaging in study groups, or working on passion projects within clubs could have made studying more enjoyable and effective. Imagine the conversations, the shared learning, the mentorship! It’s not just about the classes, but the entire ecosystem of learning that college offers. So, if you're a student now, or even if you're reflecting on your past, I want to share a piece of advice I wish I’d fully embraced: find your balance. Your college experience truly is your own, and no one should tell you how to live it. But make sure that 'living it' includes investing in your academic growth. Don't be afraid to chase that 'distinction' if it's within your reach. Challenge yourself, ask questions, delve deeper. And yes, make friends and join clubs, but recognize how those can actually enhance your learning, not detract from it. The regret of not maximizing your academic potential can sting for a long time. Learn from my journey; choose to put in the effort now, for a future you'll thank yourself for.
