They didn’t waste no time having us drive the 60FT bus around all day 😭😭😮💨😮💨🔥🔥
Getting my Commercial Driver's License (CDL) was just the beginning of an intense learning curve that continues well beyond the classroom. One of the most overwhelming experiences was being tasked to drive a massive 60FT bus immediately after getting my CDL. It was definitely a nerve-wracking day filled with emotions—from anxiety and exhaustion to excitement and accomplishment. Driving such a large vehicle requires much more than just knowing the rules of the road. Maneuvering a 60-foot bus demands a deeper understanding of spatial awareness and anticipation of blind spots. Every turn and lane change needs calculated precision. The sheer size also means that stopping distances are much longer, so constant alertness is a must. I was surprised by how quickly fatigue set in after hours behind the wheel. Constant mental focus combined with physical demands took a toll, making it hard but rewarding. Despite the challenges, the adrenaline and thrill of controlling such a powerful vehicle brought a sense of pride. For others starting out, I recommend plenty of practice in varied conditions and consulting experienced drivers whenever possible. It’s important to build confidence gradually and respect the responsibilities that come with driving commercial vehicles. Overall, driving a 60FT bus one day into having a CDL was an eye-opening experience that taught me the real-world demands of this profession. It’s a ride full of learning moments, tough lessons, and rewarding milestones that help develop safe and skilled commercial drivers.
