Stepping out for a burlesque show at a jazz club is such an exciting occasion, and it's the perfect excuse to really play with your makeup! When I'm planning a look like this, I always think about what will stand out in dim lighting and under stage lights, while still feeling true to my personal style. It's not just about applying makeup; it's about crafting a character, even if just for one night. For a classic burlesque-inspired look, I always start with a flawless base. A good primer is non-negotiable to ensure my makeup lasts through the night. Then, I opt for a medium to full-coverage foundation and concealer to create a smooth canvas, making sure to set it all with a translucent powder. Contour and blush are key here – you want to define those cheekbones to really pop, giving a sculpted, glamorous feel. A rosy or peach blush swept high on the cheekbones adds a touch of vivaciousness that's characteristic of burlesque performers. Now, for the eyes – this is where the magic truly happens! A strong, dramatic winged eyeliner is practically the signature of burlesque makeup. I usually go for a liquid or gel liner for maximum intensity and precision. Don't be afraid to make your wing bold and extended, reaching towards your temples. False eyelashes are an absolute must; think big, fluffy, and theatrical. Sometimes I even layer a couple of pairs to get that extra dramatic flutter. For the eyeshadow, I love a smoky effect, perhaps with a deep jewel tone like sapphire or emerald, or a classic black and silver blend. A touch of iridescent glitter or a shimmery topper on the center of the lid or inner corner can really catch the light beautifully, adding that extra sparkle as you move. Brows should be well-defined and sculpted to frame those expressive eyes. I fill mine in with a brow pomade or pencil and then set them with a brow gel to ensure they stay perfect all evening. And of course, no burlesque-inspired look is complete without a bold lip! While classic red is always a winner, don't shy away from deep berries, plums, or even a dark vampy shade if it suits your outfit and mood. A crisp lip liner helps prevent feathering and keeps your pout looking sharp. I always carry my lipstick with me for touch-ups throughout the night. To ensure all my hard work stays put, a generous spritz of setting spray is essential. It locks everything in place, making sure my glam look withstands dancing, mingling, and enjoying the show. Remember, burlesque makeup is all about confidence and glamour, so feel free to experiment and make it your own! It's a chance to unleash your inner showstopper and have some fun.
