Since Vaseline forms a heavy, occlusive barrier on the skin, it can prevent your skin from properly breathing and releasing toxins like sweat and oils. Similarly, using butters such as shea butter or rich botanical oils like rosehip and sea buckthorn deliver essential fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamins that help restore the skin's natural barrier. Another thing to consider is that Vaseline doesn't provide antioxidant or nutrient benefits. It simply seals the skin surface, which can sometimes trap bacteria, makeup residue, and pollutants underneath—a situation that is far from ideal for facial skin care. Natural ingredients not only protect but also heal and support skin health, promoting better hydration and repair. In my holistic skincare journey, I found that hydration and barrier repair come from ingredients that support skin’s biology rather than block it. If dryness persists, it's important to address underlying issues—such as over-cleansing, dehydration, or lack of essential fats—rather than just masking symptoms with occlusive products like Vaseline.
