Kids Bible Study - Holy Week Edition: Holy Saturday 💜
Holy Saturday holds a special place in the Holy Week story because it represents a day of quiet waiting and profound faith. After Jesus was crucified on Good Friday, He was placed inside a tomb, a cave-like structure sealed with a large stone and guarded to prevent anyone from entering or leaving. This moment is often difficult to explain to children because it is a day filled with sorrow but also hope. In my experience teaching Bible study to kids, I find it helpful to focus on the theme of faith during this waiting period. Although Jesus was physically gone, His promise to rise again in three days gave His followers hope. This teaches children an important lesson about trusting in God's word even when they cannot see what is coming next. Faith means believing in God's promises and holding on to that belief, even in times of uncertainty. Encouraging kids to pray and reflect on God's word during Holy Saturday can help them understand that waiting is active, not passive. It's a season to pray, fast, and trust in God's plan. This also connects with the concept that God's story is never finished on a sad note—there is always hope for renewal and resurrection. Explaining that Jesus' resurrection is the promise of a new beginning helps children grasp the positive outcome beyond the sadness of this day. As we share this story with children, asking questions about how they feel and how they show faith can deepen their connection to the message. For example, discussing what it means to wait in faith and rely on God's word helps make the abstract concept of faith concrete and relatable. Highlighting Luke 24:7, which mentions Jesus would rise again on the third day, reinforces the certainty of God's promise and encourages children to stand firm in their belief. Overall, Holy Saturday is an opportunity to teach kids that even in moments of waiting and apparent inactivity, faith is powerful and meaningful. It invites them to trust in God’s promises and look forward to the joy of Easter Sunday, when the story reveals its triumphant ending.
