Sharing the gospel effectively requires patience, empathy, and genuine listening—a lesson well illustrated by the apostle Paul's approach in Acts 17 when he addressed the men of Athens. Rather than dismissing their beliefs, Paul used terminology familiar to them, such as referencing their altar 'To an Unknown God,' to build a conversational bridge. This method of finding common ground is essential in today’s world where many identify as ‘spiritual but not religious.’ In my personal experience engaging with people from diverse beliefs, I've found that emphasizing shared values rather than focusing on doctrinal differences opens doors for deeper, compassionate conversations. When we approach discussions with humility and respect, it allows space for meaningful dialogue that can invite curiosity about the Christian faith without confrontation. Prayer partnerships also play a crucial role in spiritual growth and community support. The story in Exodus 17, where Moses needed Aaron and Hur to hold up his hands during battle, highlights the importance of having others who lift us up in prayer and encouragement. In modern faith communities, cultivating these relationships can provide strength during challenging times and foster a sense of unity. Moreover, addressing past spiritual wounds is necessary for healing and growth. Just like physical scars can affect wellbeing, unresolved spiritual struggles or negative past experiences may hinder our relationship with God. Acknowledging these 'offsprings of the past' and seeking guidance and prayer can help us overcome lingering effects and live freely in faith. Ultimately, evangelism and spiritual sharing are about love and connection, meeting people where they are, and walking alongside them as they explore faith. With the Holy Spirit's help, finding common ground becomes possible, turning conversations into opportunities for transformation and blessings that extend beyond words.
