What I loved most was the unique texture combo — the outside was perfectly crispy while the mushrooms inside stayed tender and flavorful. The spicy flavor pack a punch, perfect if you enjoy a good heat, but they also offer a seafood flavor if you want something milder.
I found the price in Malaysia (RM12.80) more wallet-friendly compared to Singapore ($5.90), making it a smart choice for travelers looking for tasty street food without overspending. Plus, Shihlin now includes this mushroom option in their revamped menu, so it's fresh and exciting for regular fans or first-timers alike.
For bigger appetites, consider pairing the mushrooms with their rice box set – it’s a satisfying combo that can easily replace a full meal. The dish is becoming popular not only in Johor Bahru but also at locations like Causeway Point, Austin, and IMM Mall, so you might find this delicious snack close to home.
From my personal experience, this mushroom snack quickly became a highlight during my JB food trip, perfect for sharing or a quick snack while exploring. If you happen to visit Shihlin Taiwan Street Food stalls in JB, make sure to add this to your list. The savvy mushroom lovers will appreciate the blend of crispy batter and flavorful mushroom varieties that Shihlin nail perfectly.
Also, keep in mind the mushrooms are quite 'heaty' according to local food beliefs, so perhaps enjoy in moderation if you’re sensitive. But trust me, the flavor is totally worth it!
