Foreign Domestic W insurance cancellation policy

Good maids are hard to come by these days and thus, we might run into issues where we need to change helper unfortunately. Decided to compare a few insurance policies’ cancellation clause. **Hong Leong is the worst** because it’s hard to make it within 30days as it’s based on MOM letter of discharge, which may be a different date from the Work Permit cancellation. We knew our helper cmi after about a week of her joining us. We signed with HL because of Bliss Helper agency (which really sucked btw. Posted my thorough google review. Avoid them if you’ve chosen them based on “infant care” specialty).#insurance #insurancesg #fdw

... Read moreWhen it comes to FDW insurance, understanding the nuances of cancellation policies is crucial, especially if you anticipate needing to change your helper. Based on my personal experience and extensive comparison, one major challenge lies in timing the policy cancellation to maximize premium refunds. Many insurers offer refund scales based on the cancellation period. For example, some provide full refund if canceled within 30 days, partial refunds thereafter, and no refund after certain time frames. The exact refund amount often depends on whether the policy is for 14 or 26 months, with longer policies typically having stricter refund schedules. A notable point is how the cancellation trigger is interpreted. Some companies require official documentation like the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) letter of discharge to process cancellations. This can be problematic if the discharge date differs from the work permit cancellation date, thus delaying refunds or making policy termination within a 30-day window difficult, as experienced with Hong Leong. One practical tip is to verify with the insurer how they define cancellation dates and what documents are needed. This allows more accurate planning and avoids losing significant premium amounts. Also, some policies include worldwide coverage during maid's home leave, which might be beneficial depending on your needs. Another piece of advice is to carefully select your helper agency. Some agencies may advertise specialties (e.g., infant care) but fail to deliver proper support, which could contribute to early termination and insurance issues. Checking agency reputations through reviews before signing can save trouble later. Lastly, remember that if any claims have been made or are pending under the policy, or if the premium is unpaid, insurers typically will not refund the premium. It's essential to understand these terms fully before purchasing. In summary, informed decisions about cancellation policies and agent reliability can significantly influence your FDW insurance experience and financial outcomes.
