Get to know the "pramas canon," a belief trap that takes Buddhists far from Buddhism.
What is the "precept of pramas"?
"Precept Pramas" is a Buddhist word that means
An adherence to certain precepts, rituals, beliefs, or practices so ignorant that it is thought to be self-aggravating or pure without practice.
The word comes from Pali, "the color of the product."
canon = practice, conduct
ascetic = various ceremonies or inspections
Pramas = clinging to the wrong, ignorant
For example,
Believe that performing certain ceremonies and immediately erasing karma without correcting their behavior. Thinking that just wearing a magical item, praying without understanding the Dharma, or following the ceremony is enough. Seize external patterns rather than kindness, wisdom, and real actions.
In the Buddhist way, the "pramas precept" is classified as one of the "sangyoshes" or bindings that make a person still trapped in obsession.
But it doesn't mean "canon" or "ritual" is wrong.
The point is, hopeful attachment is a refuge.
If you believe that the ceremony alone solves everything, you will begin to enter the precept of Pramas.
This idea is found in many things, such as reminding about the doctor's infatuation of a fetish or a ceremony that claims to control someone else's life without a reason for support, etc.
Because they believe that they can purify ourselves from sin or make us "free from suffering" without doing it themselves, this is a kind of "spirit-bound passion" that blocks the way to indifference.
- Lack of "Ratchai is the highest dependency": In the Buddhist way, if we believe that something else is dominant, "the law of karma" and "self-training" will make our death impure.
The result in "karma" and "monasticism."
- Not the way out of distress: Waiting may be comforting, but no god can save us from karma. Passion or dizziness can be born. The result of worship is limited to comfort.
Conclusion: Wai, can you?..Yeah. Is that wrong?..It's not wrong. It's just not a Buddhist approach that can save the real suffering.
ในประสบการณ์จริงของผมกับชาวพุทธหลายคนที่หมกมุ่นกับพิธีกรรมและเครื่องรางของขลัง พบว่าหลายครั้งพวกเขาคิดว่าเพียงแค่การทำพิธีหรือสวมใส่ของศักดิ์สิทธิ์ก็จะช่วยแก้ไขปัญหาชีวิตได้โดยไม่ต้องเปลี่ยนแปลงพฤติกรรมหรือจิตใจของตนเอง ตรงนี้เองที่เรียกว่า "ศีลพรตปรามาส" ซึ่งเป็นอุปสรรคใหญ่ในการเข้าถึงพระธรรมและความหลุดพ้นอย่างแท้จริง สิ่งที่น่าสนใจคือ หลายคนยังไม่นำหลักคำสอนเรื่องกรรมและผลของกรรมมาใช้กับชีวิตประจำวัน พวกเขาต้องการทางลัดที่ง่ายและเร็วโดยไม่ต้องปฏิบัติธรรมอย่างจริงจัง ทำให้กลายเป็นว่าการปฏิบัติจริงของพระพุทธศาสนาถูกลดคุณค่าลง โดยไปพึ่งพิงพิธีกรรมที่ไร้แก่นแท้แทน แต่หากเราพิจารณาให้ลึกซึ้ง เราจะเห็นว่าศีลและพิธีกรรมในพระพุทธศาสนามีคุณค่าเมื่ออยู่ในกรอบของการปฏิบัติธรรม การรักษาศีลควบคู่กับสติและปัญญาจะช่วยสร้างจิตใจที่บริสุทธิ์และพัฒนาตนสู่ความหลุดพ้นได้จริง ขณะที่การยึดติดพิธีกรรมที่ไม่มีความเข้าใจลึกซึ้งนั้นกลับเป็นดาบสองคมที่ทำให้ใจคนติดหลงและตรึงอยู่กับกิเลส นอกจากนี้ การเข้าใจเรื่อง "สรณะที่พึ่งสูงสุด" หรือรัตนตรัย คือ พระพุทธ พระธรรม และพระสงฆ์ เป็นหลักชัยสำคัญที่ช่วยเปิดทางสู่การรู้แจ้ง ไม่ใช่ไปหลงเชื่อพึ่งสิ่งอื่นที่อ้างว่ามีพลังเหนือกว่าโดยไม่มีหลักฐานหรือเหตุผลรองรับ ผมเชื่อว่าการเผยแพร่ความรู้เรื่องศีลพรตปรามาสนี้อย่างถูกต้องจะช่วยให้คนในสังคมไทยมีความเข้าใจที่ถูกต้องต่อพระพุทธศาสนาและลดการยึดติดทางความเชื่อที่ทำให้เกิดความหลงผิด ซึ่งจะนำไปสู่การปฏิบัติธรรมที่มีประสิทธิภาพและชีวิตที่สงบสุขอย่างแท้จริง
