What ever truly became of the other girls' kidnappers? And what about characters like Lucia Hawley, whose role felt pivotal but whose story didn't feel fully concluded? This isn't necessarily a deal-breaker for all readers. Some might appreciate the ambiguity, preferring to fill in the blanks themselves or enjoying a less explicit resolution. But for me, after investing so much time in the characters and their convoluted circumstances, I craved a more satisfying closure. It made me wonder if the author intended for us to ponder these mysteries long after the final page, or if some details were simply overlooked in the rush to wrap things up. If you're considering 'Local Woman Missing,' be prepared for a gripping journey that excels in setting a mood and creating suspense. Just be aware that its strength lies more in the journey and the intense questions it raises than in providing all the answers. It's a book that definitely sparks discussion, especially for book clubs, as everyone will likely have their own theories about what really happened and what could have been. It's a testament to Kubica's writing that even with these reservations, the story stayed with me, making me ponder its unresolved elements long after I closed the book.
