Reading the Bible for the first time.

I started with Genesis (currently on Genesis 26). So far these are the things that have shocked me and I’m confused about.

✝️ Incest in the Bible? Lots daughters. Pls expand on this further.

✝️ The first mention of fire (Genesis 15:17). I thought cavemen invented fire?

✝️ The ages of Abraham and Isaac? Over 150 years old? Pls explain this.

✝️ Why was one of Isaac’s son hairy and one smooth. What did this represent.

... Read moreReading the Bible for the first time can be an awe-inspiring yet perplexing experience. For many, the journey begins with Genesis, which sets the stage for a collection of life lessons and complex narratives. You may find yourself questioning various elements, such as the portrayal of characters like Abraham and Isaac, who lived extraordinarily long lives—over 150 years. This can lead to inquiries about the historical context and the interpretations of scripture throughout history. The mention of fire in Genesis 15:17 might bewilder readers who associate this discovery with a more primitive past, prompting a deeper look into the meaning of fire as a symbol of divine presence and judgment. Engaging with these texts often raises questions about human relationships within biblical stories, such as the contentious tale of Lot’s daughters, which leads to a discussion on morality and societal norms of the time. Additionally, the physical descriptions of twins, Jacob and Esau, showcase the thematic dualities present in biblical literature, inviting readers to ponder the significance of appearances and inherited traits. By addressing these topics and seeking meaningful explanations, readers can enrich their understanding of biblical stories while fostering a deeper spiritual connection. Ultimately, embarking on this exploration encourages discussions and reflections that have persisted through centuries, making the Bible’s teachings ever relevant.
