Regretting You by Colleen Hoover book and movie rating

6/25 Edited to

... Read moreAs an avid reader and fan of Colleen Hoover, I recently delved into 'Regretting You' and also watched its movie adaptation alongside family. The book, known for Hoover’s strong character development, delivers a compelling narrative filled with emotional depth and realism, earning a solid 9 out of 10 in my view. The story requires some suspension of disbelief but ultimately provides a gripping experience that resonates with readers. However, the movie adaptation was a different story. Watching it with my family from Scotland, we found the film lacking in key plot elements that the book handled so well. The acting and storytelling felt incomplete, making it less enjoyable if you haven’t read the book first. In this case, the movie got a lukewarm 4.3 out of 10, primarily serving as an accompaniment to the book rather than a standalone success. Beyond 'Regretting You,' I've been exploring other works recently. 'The Traveler' by Joseph Eckert is a debut novel that instantly hooked me with its intriguing time travel premise. The story opens with a mysterious disappearance that propels the plot forward, making it a perfect pick for fans of suspense and speculative fiction. Additionally, I'm listening to 'The Long Weekend' by Gilly MacMillan, which offers a thrilling audio experience about a secluded weekend with mysterious threats. Though the narration speed is unusually fast, which required me to adjust playback, the suspense and unfolding drama kept my attention. For anyone interested in contemporary reads with emotional and thrilling narratives, these titles come highly recommended. Especially with 'Regretting You,' I suggest reading the book first to fully appreciate the story before watching the movie. It’s a clear example of how adaptations can struggle to capture the full essence of a beloved novel. What are you currently reading? Feel free to share your thoughts and recommendations!
