My mommy tummy 🫶

It was very hard to accept this new reality that I look like this. It still sometimes is; but I’ve come a long way since getting pregnant. While I know my tummy isn’t necessarily what’s attractive, there’s still beauty to be found in creating life and having the marks to prove it. Am I still sometimes jealous of women who went through childbirth without a single mark? Sure, more often than I’d like to admit… but truthfully, no amount of jealousy or shame will change the fact that I earned these marks and they are a piece of my daughter that’ll always be with me.

You may think it’s gross, you may think “ew I hope that doesn’t happen to me”. I completely understand & I don’t hold that against you. Nobody wants to look like they got into a fist fight with a cheese grater. I totally get it. Just hear me out… it might happen if you have kids. You will learn to love it.

When we stop focusing on pleasing others, we begin to realize that we are more than our looks. Each mark tells a story.

I remember looking at my own stretched skin and wondering if I'd ever feel confident again. Finding your path to acceptance: It's not about loving every single change immediately, but about gradually shifting your perspective. For me, it started with acknowledging that these marks—my beautiful stretch marks—are part of my story. Instead of trying to "get back into mommy's tummy" (as if it was a pre-pregnancy garment!), I focused on what my body can do. Practical Self-Care for Your Post-Baby Midsection: Gentle Movement: If you're cleared by your doctor, gentle core exercises can help strengthen your deep abdominal muscles, which can improve the appearance and function of your midsection. Think pelvic tilts, not aggressive crunches. This isn't about "fixing" it, but about feeling stronger and more connected to your body. Nourishing Your Body: Eating well and staying hydrated supports skin elasticity and overall health. It's about feeling good from the inside out. Comfortable Clothing: Find clothes that make you feel good and confident. Sometimes, just having a comfortable fit around your 'mommy belly' can make a huge difference in your mood. Don't feel pressured to squeeze into something uncomfortable. Mindset Shift: Look at your midsection not as a flaw, but as a map of your journey. Each 'mommy stretched' mark tells a powerful story of creation. Community: Connect with other moms!
