Unplug 🔌

Hey all!! One of my most important wellness tips is to unplug!! Have you ever taken a look at your daily screen time and felt embarrassed? 🫠 I have. It’s a hard reality to come to terms with but most of us are addicted to our phones and devices. Intentionally unplugging through the day will help us be more present, for ourselves and for our families. Do something fun with your family! Do a craft, go for a walk, spend time with them. Unplugged time! It’s invaluable. #wellnessessentials #lemon8challenge #letschat

2025/2/5 Edited to

... Read moreOkay, so we all know how easy it is to get sucked into our screens. I used to be totally guilty of mindless scrolling, feeling drained instead of refreshed. But realizing the importance of a true 'digital detox'—or even just short, intentional breaks—has absolutely transformed my days. My personal screen time stats used to make me cringe, but I’ve found a path to better balance. It's more than just putting your phone down; it's about *what you choose to do instead*. For me, it started with small, intentional shifts. Instead of grabbing my phone first thing, I now make a warm cup of tea and just sit, enjoying the quiet morning. I've found spending time outdoors, even just in my backyard with our little cockatiel, makes a huge difference. There’s something so grounding about nature, whether it's hearing the birds chirp, feeling the sun on my face, or tending to a small garden. That photo with a bird and an outdoor setting? That's exactly the kind of simple, real-life joy I'm talking about that helps me disconnect from the digital noise, truly embracing the 'daily wellness tip: UNPLUG.' Another game-changer has been designating 'no-phone zones' or specific 'no-phone times.' Dinner with my family is now sacred, and honestly, the conversations are so much richer and more meaningful. We've replaced passive screen time with active engagement – doing more crafts together, playing board games, or simply going for longer walks around the neighborhood, taking in our surroundings. You wouldn't believe the difference it makes in feeling truly connected to the people around me and to myself. It’s like re-charging my own mental and emotional batteries by unplugging from the constant demands of the digital world. I've noticed my sleep improved dramatically, I feel less anxious throughout the day, and my creativity has even sparked up again! Now, let’s be real, it’s not practical to unplug forever. We live in an incredibly connected world! So, the 'replug' part – how you mindfully re-engage – is just as important as the initial disconnection. For me, it’s all about conscious re-engagement. Before I open social media or check emails, I try to pause and ask myself: 'Why am I doing this right now? What's my specific goal?' This simple question helps prevent me from falling into mindless scrolling patterns. I've also found setting time limits for specific apps to be incredibly helpful – some phones even have built-in features for this. While I haven't gone fully there with strict timers yet, I do make a conscious effort to be mindful of how long I spend on each digital task. It's about taking that intentionality we practice when we unplug and bringing it back into our digital habits, making technology a tool rather than a master. It's about creating a healthy, sustainable balance. Just like you wouldn't keep your phone plugged into the charger 24/7 if it didn't need it, you shouldn't feel constantly plugged into the digital world. Give yourself permission to occasionally step away, breathe deeply, and then come back when you're truly ready, with purpose. Think of this 'unplug and replug' cycle as a vital reset button for your brain, your relationships, and your overall well-being. It's a journey, not a destination, but every little unplugged moment makes a profound difference. I genuinely encourage you to try it – even just for an hour a day. Your mind, your energy, and your loved ones will absolutely thank you!
