🌿 My Current AM Skincare Routine + Product Breakdown

✨☀️ MY AM SKINCARE ROUTINE ☀️✨

People often ask what products I’m currently using, so I thought I’d share my morning skincare routine and explain why I use each step.

As someone with oily, acne-prone, sensitive skin that’s also prone to dehydration and post-acne hyperpigmentation, my morning routine focuses on four things:

✨ Brightening

💧 Hydration

🛡️ Barrier Support

☀️ Sun Protection

🫧 Step 1: Cleanse

ETUDE SoonJung pH 6.5 Whip Cleanser

A gentle cleanser that removes excess oil and impurities without leaving my skin feeling stripped or tight.

🍊💜 Step 2: Treat (Skin Cycling)

La Roche-Posay Vitamin C Serum and/or La Roche-Posay Mela B3 Serum

I alternate these every other morning depending on where I am in my routine.

🍊 Vitamin C Day

Helps brighten the complexion while providing antioxidant protection against environmental stressors.

💜 Mela B3 Day

Helps target post-acne marks, uneven skin tone, and hyperpigmentation while supporting the skin barrier with niacinamide.

✨ My rotation:

• Day 1 → Vitamin C

• Day 2 → Mela B3

• Repeat

🥛 Step 3: Tone & Hydrate

TIRTIR Milk Skin Toner Light

You may notice that I apply this toner after my treatment serum rather than immediately after cleansing.

I do this intentionally because my Vitamin C or Mela B3 serum contains the ingredients I’m targeting most for brightening and hyperpigmentation. Applying my treatment serum first allows those ingredients to go directly onto freshly cleansed skin.

I then follow with the TIRTIR Milk Skin Toner Light to replenish hydration and add a layer of moisture before moving on to my hyaluronic acid serum. Since it contains hydrating and barrier-supporting ingredients like niacinamide and panthenol, it helps keep my skin feeling balanced, comfortable, and hydrated throughout the day.

For my skin, this order helps me prioritize:

💧 Step 4: Hydrate

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5

Helps attract and retain moisture, keeping my skin feeling hydrated, plump, and comfortable throughout the day.

🤍 Step 5: Moisturize

ETUDE SoonJung 2x Barrier Intensive Cream

A lightweight moisturizer that helps lock in hydration and support my skin barrier without feeling heavy.

☀️ Step 6: Protect

Black Girl Sunscreen SPF 30

The most important step of my morning routine. Daily sunscreen helps protect against UV damage and helps prevent hyperpigmentation from becoming darker.

Consistency beats perfection.

Applying treatment serums like Vitamin C or Mela B3 first ensures those actives penetrate deeply to target brightening and pigmentation concerns. Follow that with a moisturizing toner like the TIRTIR Milk Skin Toner Light, rich in niacinamide and panthenol, helps replenish moisture without overwhelming the skin. Adding hyaluronic acid after helps lock in hydration, keeping skin plump and comfortable all day long. Moreover, switching between Vitamin C and Mela B3 serums every other morning—a technique known as skin cycling—allows my skin to benefit from antioxidant protection and niacinamide’s barrier-strengthening properties without irritation. This balance is crucial for sensitive skin prone to redness or dehydration. Daily sun protection is the ultimate game-changer for me. Using a broad-spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen like Black Girl Sunscreen not only shields my skin from harmful UV rays but also prevents existing hyperpigmentation from darkening. Sunscreen is a must to maintain the improvements from the other products. I’ve also learned consistency is more important than complexity. Rather than overwhelming my skin with too many steps or products, I stick to a few carefully chosen items that suit my skin type and concerns. It’s all about regular care and giving those ingredients time to work. If you’re looking to improve your morning routine, consider your skin’s unique needs and focus on layering treatments and moisturizers that nourish and protect without irritation.
