*truth on raising quail*

raising quail is not for everyone

what you should know

1.they hatch in 16 days in the incubator and dont feel bad if they dont all hatch " MOST DONT HATCH"

2. after they hatch they will already try to *UNALIVE* each other for food so as soon as they are dried put them in a brooder

3. you will have to watch them like hawks every 30min because yup they will *UNALIVE* themselves and each other because they are dumb but cute.

4. after a week old they can fly so be aware of escapes unless you have a top on them

5. they grow really fast at 4 weeks they can go outside in a pin

6. the pin has to be like a cell in a prison for real they are great escape artists they can fit through the littlest whole and they love to dig.

7. you will have to *UNALIVE * all the males except 1 because your girla will not lay eggs and they will do it to each other if not.

8. they have to have high protein to start laying.

(TIPS FROM ME TO YOU THAT I WISH I KNEW BEFORE I STARTED)

1. dont get to attached to them

2. put rocks or pebbles in the water so they dont drown. this is one i got told beforehand.

3. take everyday as a win when you go check on them because you will loose some.

4. have hen healing spray and triple antibiotics cream on hand cuz u gonna need it.

5. most important tip (*THEY ARE NOT CHICKENS*)

For example, quail eggs typically hatch within 16 days when using an incubator; however, it's common that not all eggs will hatch, so patience is necessary. After hatching, quail chicks display aggressive tendencies, often competing for food and harming each other. Therefore, placing them immediately into a brooder once they are dry is essential to minimize injuries. Frequent monitoring—approximately every 30 minutes—is crucial during their early days, as the chicks can be unexpectedly aggressive both towards themselves and one another. Within just a week, quail chicks develop flight capabilities, so secure enclosures with tops are necessary to prevent escapes. Quail are excellent escape artists; their pens must be tightly secured and like a 'cell in a prison' to keep them contained, as they can fit through very small holes and enjoy digging. Managing the population is also important. Typically, all males except one will need to be removed because excess males can harm each other and prevent hens from laying eggs. Additionally, a high-protein diet is required to support egg production. Practical tips for beginners include limiting emotional attachment to reduce frustration from unavoidable losses, adding pebbles or rocks in drinking water to prevent drowning, and having healing sprays and antibiotic creams ready to treat injuries. Remember, quail are not chickens, and their care differs significantly. Preparing for these realities can help quail enthusiasts maintain a healthier and more manageable flock. Incorporating these insights ensures more effective quail husbandry and enhances your experience in raising these unique birds.
