Friday morning as a WFH mom of 3!
My morning routine as a WFH nurse and mom of three is often described as organized chaos, and honestly, that's spot on! While the original post gives you a glimpse into my Friday mornings, there's so much more that goes into keeping our household running smoothly, especially when you're balancing a demanding career from home. One of the biggest questions I get is, 'How do you even work as a NURSE with kids around?' It's not easy, I won't lie. My work often involves telehealth consultations, reviewing charts, and coordinating care, which requires focus. I've learned that setting clear boundaries is paramount. This means having a dedicated workspace, even if it's just a corner of the house, and a clear signal to my kids when 'Mommy is working.' We use a color-coded system: green means come in, yellow means knock, red means emergency only. It took a while, but they're getting the hang of it! Let's talk about the 'Breakfast' and 'School Routine' parts. For breakfast, I'm a big believer in prep work. Sundays are for chopping fruit, making overnight oats, or baking a batch of muffins. This saves precious minutes during the weekday rush. Getting three kids ready for school is a daily marathon. My secret weapon? Laying out clothes the night before, pre-packing lunchboxes, and having a 'launch pad' by the door for backpacks and shoes. We also have a visual schedule board, so everyone knows what's next, minimizing arguments and keeping us on track. And the 'Gym'? Oh, that's where my sanity lives! Fitting in exercise as a WFH mom of three feels impossible most days, but I prioritize it. Sometimes it's a quick 30-minute online workout during naptime, other times it's a brisk walk around the block with the youngest in the stroller while the older two are at school. There are days when the only 'gym' I see is chasing after a toddler, and that counts too! The key is flexibility and letting go of perfection. It's about movement, not always about hitting the weights. Beyond the morning, successful WFH mom life hinges on effective time management and self-care. I swear by time blocking, dedicating specific hours to work, family time, and household chores. But I also schedule 'me time' into my day, even if it's just 15 minutes to sip my coffee in silence or read a chapter of a book. It's not selfish; it's essential for me to show up as my best self for my family and my patients. Remember, you can't pour from an empty cup. This journey is challenging, but incredibly rewarding, and finding a rhythm that works for your family is the ultimate goal.
