6 years later and we’ve created our own little traditions (routines ig) besides the ones with our families:-)

... Read moreIt's incredible how much joy and connection simple traditions can bring to a relationship! After six wonderful years with my partner, I can genuinely say that these little rituals are the glue that holds us together, making everyday moments feel extra special. When we first started thinking about what traditions we wanted to establish, we didn't aim for anything grand, just things that felt authentic to us. And honestly, that's the best advice I can give anyone looking to start their own relationship traditions. One of our absolute favorites is our Cedar Point every Halloween trip. It started as a spontaneous idea, and now it's an anticipated annual event! There's something magical about planning our costumes, braving the spooky rides, and just embracing the festive, slightly chilly atmosphere together. It’s a tradition that builds shared anticipation and incredible memories. Then there are our monthly blanket fort movie nights. This is perfect for those cozy evenings in! We gather all our softest blankets, string up some fairy lights, and pick a movie we've both been wanting to see (or a nostalgic classic). We'll usually have popcorn and our favorite snacks. It’s such an easy, affordable, and incredibly intimate way to unwind and connect without any distractions. Even mundane tasks can become traditions. For us, it’s grocery shopping together. What could be boring becomes a fun exploration of new foods, a chance to chat about our week, and sometimes even a little competition to find the best deals. It’s about turning a chore into quality time. And on a more romantic note, we’ve made a tradition of taking turns buying each other flowers. It’s not about grand bouquets, but the thoughtfulness behind a single lily or a small bunch of daisies. It’s a sweet reminder that you’re thinking of each other. Special occasions also get their own traditions. Olive Garden every Valentine's Day might sound simple, but it’s our thing. It’s comforting, familiar, and always delicious. We know exactly what to expect, and that consistency makes it feel truly special, like a little yearly anchor for our love. And speaking of anchors, celebrating our cat's gotcha day has become a heartwarming family tradition. Our furry friend is a huge part of our life, and acknowledging the day they joined our family is a sweet way to celebrate our little unit. For those who love the outdoors, our twice a month summer hikes are essential. Exploring new trails, breathing in fresh air, and enjoying nature together is incredibly rejuvenating. It’s a great way to stay active and discover beautiful spots in our area. And when the holidays roll around, nothing beats our annual holiday movie and baking day. We pick a classic festive film, put on our aprons, and bake up a storm, usually making cookies or a special festive treat. The house smells amazing, the music is playing, and it’s pure holiday magic. Starting traditions doesn't have to be complicated. It could be something as simple as a coffee date every Saturday morning, cooking a new recipe together once a week, or even just sharing your "highs and lows" of the day before bed. The key is to find things that genuinely bring both of you joy and strengthen your bond. Don't be afraid to experiment, and remember that traditions can evolve as your relationship does. What matters most is the shared experience and the intentional time spent together, building a life filled with these precious, unique routines.
