my little story!

hi! i’m xinyi 🤍

this little comic is a part of my story

i used to think insurance was something i could think about later

until i went through something myself

i was living pretty much paycheck to paycheck then

and when the bills came in… it honestly scared me a little

not because it was the worst situation

but because i realised how unprepared i was

and how some things… you can’t plan for after they happen

so now, i just share what i wish someone told me earlier

just in case someone else needs to hear it too ☺️

... Read moreAs someone who has experienced the harsh realities of unexpected medical expenses firsthand, I can relate deeply to the situation described here. Working as cabin crew, the job was thrilling until severe back pain hit unexpectedly. The MRI alone cost around $2,000, and with multiple specialist visits and physiotherapy, the bills quickly piled up, especially when living paycheck to paycheck. Like many, I had no insurance coverage that could help me manage these costs because my previous health issues became an exclusion, making it impossible to secure affordable protection. This experience taught me a crucial lesson: insurance is not just something to delay or overlook. It’s a necessary safety net, especially when facing unpredictable health problems. Waiting until after an illness or injury to get coverage often results in higher costs or denial of crucial benefits. Financial planning, including hospital insurance, is essential to safeguard your future and peace of mind. Sharing this story is important because many people underestimate how quickly medical costs can escalate. Having insurance doesn’t just cover hospital visits; it can help protect your savings and prevent financial instability. Taking the time to research and invest in appropriate insurance plans early on can make a significant difference. To those who are hesitant or unsure about insurance, my advice is to start small if needed but don’t wait until a crisis hits. Educate yourself about the types of insurance that fit your lifestyle and profession. For example, cabin crew members might consider policies that cover injury-related exclusions specific to their duties. Overall, this journey from unpreparedness to financial empowerment emphasizes how sharing personal experiences can help others avoid similar pitfalls. I hope my story encourages you to rethink your approach to insurance and financial planning before the unexpected happens.
